Never done it, heard great things about it. I would seriously join you except that I think my knees would explode. I bike instead of run because it's lower impact on my aging joints.

I started the C to 5K program last year. I LOVE IT. I am starting it over again as I have kinda stopped running after the 10K I did in the spring and I want to do a couple of 5K runs this fall. It is simple to do and RR, the is a couch to 5K walking program as well.

When are you starting Diva? I still need to download the app. And please tell me how it works - is it my music or theirs? What does it do exactly - speak in my ear to walk now, jog now, etc???

I use it and like it. It's your music, not theirs. And yes, it speaks in your ear to walk/jog etc.

Sadly, I like to run to the cheesiest pop music I can possibly find with some oldies and country songs on the side. It needs to be mindless, have a fast tempo, and be simple enough that I still absorb the words even when I'm gasping for breath.

My running playlist, which I put on shuffle mode (I can't believe I'm posting this in public):

POP
3, Britney Spears
Toxic, Britney Spears
I Wanna Go, Britney Spears
Candyman, Christina Aguilera
Tonight Tonight, Hot Chelle Rae
In My Head, Jason Derulo
Sexy Back, Justin Timberlake
Extraterrestrial, Katy Perry
California Gurls, Katy Perry
Just Dance, Lady Gaga
Misery, Maroon 5
Moves Like Jagger, Maroon 5
Promiscuous, Nelly Furtado
The Way I Are, Timbaland
Dirty Little Freaks, Pink
Whenever, Wherever, Shakira
Dynamite, Taio Cruz
Break Your Heart, Taio Cruz
Golddigger, Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx
Supermassive Black Hole, Muse (extra nerd points here since it's from the soundtrack to the film Twilight)
With You In My Head, Uncle (extra extra extra nerd points here since it's from the soundtrack to the third Twilight film, Eclipse)

CLASSICS
Do You Wanna Touch, Joan Jett
I Love Rock n' Roll, technically a Joan Jett song but I run to the Britney Spears version
Centerfold, J. Geils Band
Footloose, George Michael
Faith, George Michael
Stayin' Alive, Bee Gees
No Matter What You Are, Badfinger
I Saw Her Standing There, Beatles
That Thing You Do, The Wonders (yes, from the movie)
Lookin' Out My Back Door, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Uptown Girl, Billy Joel
For the Longest Time, Billy Joel
I Only Want To Be With You, Dusty Springfield
Lollipop, the Chordettes

COUNTRY
Unbelievable, Diamond Rio
Fast As You, Dwight Yoakam
Daddy's Money, Ricochet
Summertime, Rascal Flatts
Suds in the Bucket, Sara Evans
Stuck Like Glue, Sugarland
Chattahoochee, Alan Jackson
Sold (Grundy County Auction Song), John Michael Montgomery

Any of the apps will work. They are all basically the same.

Yes, technically OI is right. This one has a good reputation too, but I like the interface on the one I linked to better. I suppose you could refer to either of them as the "official" app--the other one is the one made by couchto5k.com, and this one is the one from CoolRunnings.com (where the Couch to 5K originated years ago):

Hey, DQ, I might be joining in after all!

There is 5k coming up here in early October. We are trying to convince my just 9-year old that he is capable of such a thing (one of his new friends is doing it with his mom). I think my knees can stand the training and running of a single 5k; I'll let you know!

 <--RR, kind of excited at the idea.

Me again.

I have created playlists, downloaded to i-Touches and nanos, have added the Couch35k App ... and ... drumroll ... signed us up for the Vienna Night Run, Oct 8th.

Dudes. We are doing it. :cheer:

The plan is that my 9-year old and I will train together. The 7 year old is "coming along," but we aren't actually planning to have her "train" or run. Although if she really wants to, she is welcome - internet research would suggest it's perfectly okay for a 7-year old to run a 5k IF it comes from them, not the parents dragging them along. I suspect she will spend the night at a friends house. :teehee:

Mr. RR, me and the 9-year old will run. The weather and the knee gods willing.

Please note: I am aware that October 8th is sooner than "9 weeks." I'm reasonably fit, so definitely not starting from "couch." I'm actually not that concerned about dying from lack of oxygen, my issues are more structural. I have braces to train in, so we'll see how that goes ...
