Sad story in the news. A Pacifica man came home to find his wife in a puddle of blood! The two year old family pitt bull standing over her pregnant body. Autopsy reveals blood loss and shock were the cause of death. Dog was shot by police. 2nd family pitt bull not involved! OMG the poor woman! And her DH! So tragic! There are no words! |

So, how do they KNOW the dog killed the lady? Were there bite wounds? Would love to know more of this story. |

I would say they did the homework before they just killed a dog. A dog that bites a human is a dead dog in my mind. Instinct or not that is not a dog that we need to have around. LF |

If only that were true, there have been numerous cases of "trigger happy" cops that have shot and killed dogs for no apparent reason. However, I agree that ANY dog that bites human should be in the ground. |

Well, I'm sure it's a lot of he said, she said at this point. From the stories I read, sounds like the dog was taken to a back room/backyard by the husband and somehow got out, and the cops shot it. No big surprise there, seeing as cops pretty much shoot any dog (but especially a Pit Bull) if it's even walking toward it, although I do agree with their actions in this case if the dog really did attack the owner. |

The Mayor is proposing a ban on pitts! Here in Oakland the males must be neutered. A report shows that has helped with problems. |

This has nothing to do with the breed of dog but rather man breeding a dog for a purpose then someone else wanting to make that dog something it is not. Pits were bred to be tenacious fighters to clamp down and not give in. Then humans somehow decide that they will make great family pets. You see it with herding dogs that get turned into apartment pets. Boarder Collies make terrible pets if you don't have space and time to run the energy off them. Breed a dog to run 100 miles a day chasing sheep then lock them in an apartment and see furniture get made into chew toys. We do the same with horses. Breed a horse up to be a draft horse then try and make it a dressage horse and wonder why it can't compete. That does not mean with proper socialization and much work a pit won't make a good pet. Kady has shown it can. I have been around some great pits. I love BC but I would never have one if I didn't have cattle and 20 acres. I don't blame the dog or the breed. More I blame humans for putting a dog in a situation that it is ill suited for. |
