LOL, not too much to report, we were in Kentucky on vacation (visiting family in TN) so we stopped in for a day at Pony Finals... and bought many pairs of bows :)

Maya and Goldie are continuing to rock the short stirrup world here in Virginia. She has won every class (6 classes) at the last two shows she was in on Goldie. We need to find more competition! Trainer said we need to find some rated shows but I don't think there's much this fall that offers short stirrup. She'll be moving up to childrens next year for sure. Goldie is looking awesome, her coat is nice and shiny, and she is much more fit, did an easy lead change yesterday, first time I've seen her do a change that easily. She's feeling good! Maya has been jumping 2'3" at home and is just having a blast.

There are pics on FB of her riding a large pony, Fan Z This... this is a pony at the place she did camp for a week. She rode the pony once and then showed her and was champion in a competitive short stirrup equitation division!

Here she is on the large... and this is just barely a large BTW...Maya looks so tiny!

Collecting her blue ribbon in the flat class... apparently we don't put our heels down while collecting ribbons ;)

So while the little grey pony came back an absolute nightmare, which is frustrating, everything else is going famously! Thanks for asking!

I'm so happy for Maya! She's clearly having a blast and it sounds as if Goldie has been really good for her. It's a shame Zee couldn't get his act together but what can you do. :( At least Maya is progressing, having a good time and winning lots of ribbons!! :)

Love the pictures, and love all the ponies!!

It's so funny, I don't think she looks tiny on the large pony at all. Kids around here just don't ride ponies as much. Obviously some do, but it's just not unusual to see kids on small horses, so to me the ponies look tiny! In the FB album, the little chestnut pony with the little girl in light blue looks TINY, but probably that is a good match. It's just not what I'm used to. :)

I want to ride short stirrup. Do they allow adults to do that? ;)

thanks guys, Flash the bummer about Zee is IF he were a good pony, he could be her pony finals small green mount. BUT he is just plain evil right now. Oh well.

TBF, they do have a short stirrup for adults, it's called "long stirrup"! LOL we have an adult at our barn who loves to lesson with the SS kids, and swears she's going to show SS one day (of course the age limit is 12!). The chestnut and the little girl is Maya's best pal and that pony IS tiny. It's 11.3 LOL But the girl is tiny too so they look good together. Maya fits Goldie beautifully even though she's only a little smaller than the bay because she's so much finer boned and narrow. It's amazing what the body shape being different means as far as fit.

here are the most obnoxious of the bows we got :) she has a green shirt and purple looks good on Goldie...so here you go...(you may have to avert your eyes!)

The other set I got Maya are just multi-striped on a blue background, will go with all of her shirts and they are smaller than these. We got a friend a pair like the above but in pastels (blues/pinks/greens) that is really pretty too!

Bow heaven I tell ya!

As one who has actively participated in Long Stirrup, let me tell you it ain't all sunshine and (rain)bows. :innocent: Most times there aren't enough so they combine with the short stirrup kids. Not only do the little kids regularly kick my peri-menopausal ass but they look a whole lot cuter with their little ponies and bows than I do. (insert pouting emoticon). My single biggest motivator for moving up was the day in the under saddle lineup and I realized not only was I the oldest... and the tallest ... but also the *only* one on a horse.

Al started out in the stirrup divisions too. He kicked those kids asses! Just sayin!

Hmmm, I always thought Long Stirrup was what the Short Stirrup kids did after they aged out! I'm not sure we actually have Long Stirrup around here....a fairly active "C" rated local circuit, but not sure they offer all the classes the bigger shows do. Well, that's next year's project anyway.

Luckily I'm too old for bows, though. ;) Don't think I could pull that off, even if I did have long hair. :teehee:

ETA: Just checked the local circuit's annual horse show prize list and they don't have Short Stirrup either. Maybe that's why we never see those bows?! They have a variety of Children's divisions, just not Short Stirrup. Maybe not enough young riders to have a class over fences for 12 and under?

LOL Gunnar, you and I will have to agree to disagree on the bows :)

Not every show TBF around here has short stirrup, only the local associate rated VHSA shows, and some rated shows. And I don't see long stirrup much in our area. We are in a BIG pony area, kids ride ponies until they are teenagers and then are pulled off them kicking and screaming. It's all about ponies in Virginia, and bows! But yes, if you don't have a big pony population, you will not see many little little kids showing, nor will they have killer bows :teehee:

I think Long Stirrup is one of those divisions that, being that it's not a national division, has specifications that vary from association to association. For our county association, Short Stirrup is kiddos under 12 and then Long Stirrup is those over 12 but under 18. There is a division called Limited Adult that is over the same height but for grown ups.

I love Maya's new bows (though I'd love 'em more if the tails were a few inches shorter ;) ). The lime green is awesome.

I know Indy, they are really long LOL :teehee: The other ones we got are much smaller, not as full, so they will not be quite as obnoxious. I need to put them farther up her braid so make sure it doesn't cover the number. She'll have to grow into them. :teehee:

At some Norcal shows they have a separate little show withh walk trot and stirrup stuff. No braiding etc! Still some fancy horses in that part. We have Rusty Stirrup for 18 and over.
