I really liked the HBO series. It piqued my interest...so I bought the books 1-4. They are great, if you've any interest in fantasy fiction. Quite gritty and sometimes graphic. I needed a good book, I'm down with a broken arm this summer!

Mr. Indy has read them and liked them (he's a big fan of the fantasy stuff) but he refuses to read the most recent one or any subsequent ones until the entire series is published. Apparently the author took six years to write book 5 and there is little sign of when the final two books will appear. I think Mr. I is a bit traumatized by the death of his favorite author (Robert Jordan) before his books were finished and he doesn't want to get any further involved in a series that might not be finished by the main author.

I am obsessed. I started half way through the first season on HBO with Book 1, and I am now about 20% into Book4!

Neither Mr. D nor I have read the books, but we watched the whole first season on HBO. We both really enjoyed it, but Mr. D is fairly obsessed! To the point that we're now watching reruns.

I'm afraid to touch them because I don't have time to get sucked into a great fantasy series. My mom and sister have read books 1-3, and I actually already have Books 1 thru 4 on my Kindle...but like I said, very afraid to get sucked in! I loved the Robert Jordan books when I read them 10 years ago, and I hear Game of Thrones is even better.

I caught one episode once, and it was unfortunately the one where the knight beheads the horse. :o

Wee squid-o happened into the room at that point, so I moved on before I traumatized her. lol

I will have to check it out since it got such good reviews here.

jilli, that's what made me stop watching the show. I found it just too violent and it was a real turn-off for me to see the horse beheaded, even though I know it wasn't real...

The books are on my list, so I'll get to them in the next couple of months. Once I read them, I might try downloading the series. I don't watch much (actually, the only television show I've seen in the last 15 years is Glee), but if it's worth it, I'll download and see what I think.

I'm loving the books. Started with book 1 over July 4th and am already 1/2 way through Book 5. If it takes him another 5/6 years for Book 6 I will be quite frustrated. I'll have to reread them all again before book 6 because they are quite involved. Especially with the number of characters.

I'm reading a Storm of Swords as we speak and its not a short book almost 1000 pages. I will most likey have to return it to the library before its due. I personally like that I can choose not to read about a character in the books because thats how the chapters go. I do wish some of the characters lived longer lives. Theres a lot of turn over. Can't wait for next season on hbo although I heard they are only doing 10 episodes instead of the usual 14.

Agreed. Do NOT skip chapters!
My sister has read all 5 and we often have to chat about who is dead/alive to keep me straight!

OMG I know right? Geeze, sometimes people you never thought would die just...die! I was distraught for a bit on vacation when I thought a certain character died, then I found out recently it actually didn't happen.

This is a must read for me. Dead characters who spring back to life sounds right up my alley.

I have also not yet seen "Firefly." Anyone want to jump all over me for that omission? It's on my "dying to see it list, and I am assuming you can buy it from i-Tunes (I can't watch things on Hulu, if it is there), so one day soon, when Mr. RR is traveling, I will have myself a Firefly Festival and finally catch up on what all the fuss has been about.
