This may be kind of a goofball suggestion, but.... there is a series on the History Channel called How The States Got Their Shapes, http://www.history.com/shows/how-the-states-got-their-shapes. It is really interesting, or at least I thought it was :teehee:
I like that show! I'm watching it right now.

About 20 years ago, I drove through Nebraska. We stopped at North Platte which is the home of Buffalo Bill. It was totally kitschy and touristy - and I LOVED IT! I've always wanted to go back.

Hey RR AM is looking for a long weekend. Trains take time! Just sayin!
It was a long weekend trip. If memory serves, we traveled for four days ... we started in Portland, overnighted to Whitefish, two days in Whitefish at the Park, then one day to Chicago ...

AM I can highly reccomend cape cod. Great food, beautiful spots, shopping, and not too far. Quite drivable in fact. Also NYC for a long weekend is always a good choice.

ASton my Mom and her fiance just did a HUGE drive from CO to Illinois, Michigan, Toronto, Niagara Falls, then back to the Dakotas and Nebraska. They LOVED the Dakotas (especially Deadwood, Rapid City and Mount Rushmore) and said it was quite stunning there. THey also remarked that Nebraska was quite pretty, for what it's worth. They live in Estes Park, so they are quite used to "great scenery". THeir favorite view of Niagra Falls was from the Canadian side and they want to go back next year.

PS...they brought me back a GIANT can of Tim Hortons coffee from Toronto and I am oficially ADDICTED!!!! (that was really for BT and JTM since they complain LOUDLY when deprived of their staple liquid diet...lol)

I'll second the Iowa State Fair. Des Moines looks like a very nice city.

We are moving there in September so I'll miss the Fair :(
