I have to second MayaTy downtown Omaha isn't half bad. I had to go to present at a hospital there sometime last fall and it has an area called The Market or Old Market or something like that with some good restaurants/bars and cute shops. They also were building some big baseball stadium right downtown so maybe there's a game you can go to. Outside of that area downtown I don't what else there is. To tell the truth when they asked me to come present I was like "really??? Omaha?? Good lord" but I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't know anything about Nebraska, but whenever I'm driving somewhere that will allegedly be very boring, I look it up on Roadside America. Apparently Nebraska is littered with fascinating attractions like the Birthplace of Kool-Aid and Carhenge: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/location/ne You might also try the Lonely Planet online site for Nebraska. Lonely Planet often ferrets out tourism gems in otherwise dull places: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/great-plains/nebraska |

So many choices! Really depends how far you want to go! Arkansas has the Ozarks! Indiana has Amish country. Illinois has Chicago. Nebraska has nothing like that. Montana is far but Yellowstone is life changing. South Dakota is lovely with the Black Hills, Mt rushmore and that huge Indian guy on a horse. |

We drove through Nebraska one time....we wanted to see wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail and Scott's Bluff....we stayed in Ogallala and saw a cute little show....Then we headed out to Wyoming I'm sure it's chalk filled with touristy things to do..... HH

I hope that everyone offering to show me around is telling the truth! hahahaha! CDE - I'll definately come out that way at some place. I have travelled a lot around the world and really neglected the places that are much more accessible and on my doorstep so I'm really going to try and see it all (including Canada which I kinda keep putting off). Kikki. Sounds good to me!!! hahaha. What time of year is the best? Spring / Summer? |

This may be kind of a goofball suggestion, but.... there is a series on the History Channel called How The States Got Their Shapes, http://www.history.com/shows/how-the-states-got-their-shapes. It is really interesting, or at least I thought it was

I've also been to Omaha and also found it charming. I worked with the Omaha Steak people for a while when I was the brand manager for A.1. Steaks sauce. Nicest people in the world. But, small. Two nights, max. AM, have you considered train travel? Mr. RR and I took a trip a few years back (BC). We hopped the train in Portland Oregon, took it to Whitefish, Montana, rented a car and drove through Glacier National Park. Maybe. I could google all of that, but it's what my shattered memory has dredged up, so maybe. Whitefish is a charming place and the national parks are really lovely for hiking and photography. We then took the train to Chicago and flew home from there. |

I lived in Missouri for a couple years as a kid and our family spent many weekends exploring along the Mississippi river and into the Ozark Mountains. It was very interesting with lots to do. I would love to go to Colorado, Montana and the Pacific Northwest states as well. New England is gorgeous. |

I live in the midwest...Indiana. It's "ok" but I wouldn't make a special trip! ! This area has alot of long boring flat stretches of road in Iowa, So. Ill. and Nebraska! If you are looking at this area to visit, I recommend Michigan lake country--Mackinac Island, Smoky Mtns, TN, and Asheville, NC is neat. If your'e into TBs/racing Lexington,KY is nice.
