alright folks, we are going on vacation in less than two weeks - whooo hooooooooo  Going to be in Nashville from Monday to Thursday, and possible Friday, then Lexington for a day or two (non-horsey husband didn't give much ground on that one :brickwall: )

I know I'm going to go to pony finals for a bit one of the days we're in KY, but any other suggestions from locals or folks who have been in both areas are very welcome! we are seeing Clint Black at the Grand Ol Oprey but other than that, we have no plans!

I looooove Lexington. Check out Keeneland if you can, I think even if they're not actively racing you can still do tours (can't remember their meet dates). Fabulous gift shop there too. Of course, KY Horse Park is a must. And you can always do tours of the big TB farms. Oh, and don't forget the tack shopping-- Quillin's, Mickler's etc.-- I bet you can find your pony a gorgeous leather halter if you don't already have one!

Don't know anything about Nashville, except that it sounds fun! Have a blast!!!

I think I'm the token TOC Lexingtonian here :teehee:

OK its not horse related but if you are coming up I65, I vote that you make a stop at Mammoth Cave National Park. Definately one of the coolest freaking things in KY. Make sure to make reseravations on line for the tours since its really busy in the summer. If you are interested, PM and I'll send you the website for making reservations and what tours I've been on.

KHP is pretty nice, so get out there for sure. If you want to tour the TB farms, definately go to Three Chimneys.

Let me know if you want restaurant recs etc! You'll love Lex-its horse heaven :cloud9:

awesome Jerseyfresh!! I definitely could use a restaurant recommendation or two!! we may only be there from Friday lunch to Saturday lunch (curses to husband) so a dinner and lunch reco would be great. I like the idea of Mammoth Cave, absolutely let me know what info you can share. We are staying at a bed and breakfast in the Lexington area that is supposedly 15 mins to Three Chimneys and the same to Calumet. I can't wait!!! please send more info :) I just saw that one of the broodmare barns burned down last night - scary!!

Oh, forgot about Mammoth Cave. That is cool! We used to go to Carter Caves every year (my grandmother was from KY and my great grandmother lived in Grayson). Have fun, I'm jealous!!!

P.S. Do NOT, whatever you do, order "mountain oysters"... I actually made the mistake of asking a waitress what they were once and all I can say is :spew: !

OK Mammoth Cave info:

http://www.nps.gov/maca/index.htm

If the kiddies are with you, I recommend the New Entrance tour or the Historic Tour. Both are about 2 hours. Make reservations for sure this time of year!

For lunch, if you go to Three Chimneys stop at Wallace Station. Dinner, I like Malone's for steaks or Dudleys on Short downtown. If you want Southern cooking, try Ramseys Diner (there are 4 around town). This is really silly but if you head to Keeneland or on Versailles Rd at all, stop at the BP near the Ford Dealership and get a donut from Dough Daddys.

Where is your B&B located? I'll try to think of other suggestions for you!

As far as the distilleries go, they are pretty fun but if you see one you've seen them all. I've been to MM, Constellation, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve (can you tell my parents like bourban?). If you go to Three Chimneys and this is something that would appease the non-horsey hubby, WR isnt very far and is very pretty. Their tour isnt as much fun as the others but its still a very nice place. BT has the best liquor called a bourban cream.

Hmmm...same thing with wineries and breweries but for some reason I also don't have a problem spending a day touring, and tasting at them either. Each to their own I guess!
