I just got the first of many (I'm sure).....graduation announcements from children of my many cousins!

What is the appropriate etiquette given the following:

I have seen the kid twice in his life
Family is very wealthy
Full athletic scholarship to college

So....a) don't know him personally; and b) they definitely don't need money for college. Do I send just a card? Do I send a card and something small....like an iTunes card or something? (hmm...that feels cheesy)....do I send money even though I know he doesn't need it? (If it were one of my other cousins who really needed money toward college, I would feel comfortable giving money....) Perhaps a book? Hmm....I could think of a few good ones but maybe not so appreciated.... ;) Or I could just send a hearty congratulations via Facebook. Haha.....not going to do that.....

Opinions?

Hmmm...no one?

I guess I'm going with card only.

Not sure he'd be a big fan of any of my favorite books.....do 19 year old boys read Pride & Prejudice? :teehee:

I think card only is appropriate. If you were closer to his parents or even him, I'd say a gift card to iTunes or someplace like that would be nice but since you don't have any connection with him a card should be plenty.

Maybe throw in an iTunes gift card if you feel like you WANT to something otherwise a card is fine. I don't even think it needs to be an expensive gift card - $10-$20 is fine, like I said, if you WANT to include something

Card sounds good to me.

I send "The Places You'll Go" by Dr Seuss. It's cute and fun and I get the best feedback after sending that book. Plus it's cheap and who doesn't like Dr Seuss?!

I don't think your cousins really expect you to send an expensive gift. Mine really just send the announcements to keep me in the loop. A gift is extra. I do have a cousin who will expect a big gift and for me to come to the west coast when his daughter graduates. I could do that, but I'd show up in a dress he doesn't like and order food he didn't approve of so she's getting "The Places You'll Go" just like everyone else.
