I have belonged to one for the past five years and I love it. Here's how we do it.

There are two groups, Diet Pool and Goal Pool.

Diet Pool-ers are in it to lose weight; this is a COMPETITIVE pool\
Everyone antes $50US and weighs in.
The person who loses the most weight at the end of the pool (typically 8 weeks) gets 50% of the dough. 2nd place person gets 35% 3rd place gets the rest. You MUST LOSE WEIGHT to win anything (if the third place person has not lost weight, the money goes back to the kitty for the next pool).
You are REQUIRED to weigh in once a week. This is important for a lot of reasons.

Goal Pool-ers: are in it to hit a goal; this pool is not technically competitive
Everyone antes $50US and declares a goal.
If you are within 3lbs of your goal at the end of the pool, you keep your money.
If you are above 3lbs over your goal, the rest of the pool splits your money.
You are also required to weigh in every week.

If there is enough interest, I'd be happy to set it up, BUT, it does require a huge amount of trust as we are not close enough to do any checking. If you are going to be part of this, you have to be ready to tell the truth.

Any interest?

Oooh...maybe just the motivation I need! I don't need to lose that much but still...I'm not actually doing anything so maybe time to put some money on it. :)

I would be SO for the Diet Poolers because I have a lot of weight I can lose.

I HAVE to drop some poundage. NOW. It's been a year of messing around, this last chunk of baby weight is not going to leave on it's own. This could be just the kick in the pants I need.

I don't have a preference in terms of which we were to do, I'll participate either way.

Hmmm, 91 views and 4 replies. I think people are less interested than I thought they would be!

Thinking about it. I would be interested in the second option more so than the first.

I think if we end up with four people interested, the Goal Pool might work for everyone. The "non-direct competition" element of it is brilliant, because you get to cheer everyone on, without there ever been a squawk at the end because someone won money and someone didn't.

You either make your own personal goal and keep your money, or you don't and then you donate your money to all of the lovely ladies who DID.

We'll see if anyone else pops up. I know Sanny and J4J and DQ have already lost weight, but I did think Boston was looking for something ...

AND, drum roll, the idea of the Goal Pool for someone us (me!) is to keep off the weight we have lost. I'm in bit of a bad place right now, but for the most part, I have kept off the 15 pounds I lost for five years. It's a good system.

well my issue with it is that it really should be based on percentage right? so if I know that TBF has like 5 lbs to lose cause she's a tiny little thing and I have...well alot more than that...what incentive is there for me? I'm having trouble figuring it out. Help! :)

We do these Biggest Loser competitions twice a year at work, it's fun and great motivation. You really need a percentage of body weight lost though to make it fair for everyone. We award two winners, one to the most weight lost, and one to the highest percentage lost.

I am in either way. But to be fair my healthy starve diet, being a male, and having a bunch to loose will cause me to lose weight more than most can. I mean really I hope to loose more when I am done than most of you weigh. :innocent:

Now down 63 lbs as of this morning. A wedding and a funeral put me back a couple of weeks. No gains but no losses either. Hoping to be down 75 by the first of June.

I'm sorry, I just lost my 30 lbs last year and will celebrate my one year anniversary hitting my goal weight in July :)

If I had not done it last year I would be all over it. fwiw Weight Watchers helped me, so the accountability thing is huge, so good luck.
