Does anyone have any suggestions for a good swiffer type thing or vaccum for hardwood floors? I just bought a house and while the vacuum is ok for the carpet upstairs, I need somethign for the hardwoods downstairs. The swiffer with the dry pads seems to just push the hair around and the broom isnt that great at its job either. Our blended family includes 3 lab mixes so you can imagine what kind of hair I am dealing with....

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I just want somethign i can use every few days to get the dog hair up before it starts to look like I have carpet :teehee:

The Swiffer works fine on my hardwood, with a vacuuming as needed.
I encourage my dogs to stay outside :teehee: but when the summer heat (and serious shedding) hits, the swiffer will run around daily. I picked up a huge pack of the sheets at "Costco."

My entire first floor is hardwood, as is the landing upstairs. I sweep the hair from corners and vacuum the floors first, then use a wet Swiffer on them to get any stubborn hairs. We have a Hoover Pet vacuum (I can't remember the specific model), which is bagless, and it has height adjustments for the bristles, so you just switch between hardwood and carpeting depending on what you are vacuuming. It has great suction, and does a great job picking up the hair (and we have 4 dogs (corgi, lab, lab mix, and foxhound), so we have a LOT of hair! It also wasn't incredibly expensive. I looked at getting a Dyson Pet Vacuum, but the cost! :psycho:

I haven't found anything to really work other than my Dyson. It's small enough and light enough to use frequently and I love the bagless. Get about two containers worth of dog hair each vaccuming :)

I have a pet Dyson which I adore (it was expensive but that's what all our wedding gift cards went to). It's one with the ball so it swivels every which direction. It has a setting for non-carpeted floors so I put it on that and suck all the dog particles off the hardwoods upstairs. Then I wet Swiffer to get up anything that might have been left behind along with any other nasties on the floor. It also does a killer job on the downstairs carpets.

Our first floor is all wood too. I have an oreck. It's light, doesn't scratch up the floors and picks up the dog hair tumble weeds.

I have hardwood floors through out my house with an Aussie Mix and a...Teddy Bear mix. The hair this time of year is overwhelming. I bought a Furminator for Cubbee and get at least four dogs off of him every night. I sweep, vacuum and then mop. Touch ups during the week are with a regular dry Swiffer. I pull the hair into piles and pick it up. Then, Swiffer more.

I just pray no one will stop by without a lot of notice!

I have pergo and carpet. I really like my little Dyson slim which they apparently don't make anymore! Dyson has a new super slim cordless that looks interesting. I have had mine for a few years and used it 2x a week or more with 2 dogs that shed a lot. I like how easy it is to use and clean.

Our house is hardwood upstairs but we do have rugs down. Two of 3 bedrooms (guest and Hubby's closet room) are carpeted, and our basement is carpeted. Our basement is our family room, TV, computer dog toy basket are all down there. We recently for a vacuum got the Miele Capricorn ($$$$) but I could NOT be happier. It is quiet, has a hospital grade air purifier system on board, and cleans REALLY well. No not cheap but it has a 10yr service warranty, and the company expects the average household to keep this and use it for 20 years.

I wanted to get a quick pick up stick vacuum, like a Shark, but we had one once and it just didn't do great with the amount of dirt in the house. It died pretty fast too. Since getting the new vacuum, we have been willing to pull this out more. So nice and easy to use.

What I want to know is do the swiffer mop systems work? I hate hauling out the bucket and mop to do the kitchen floor (slate tile) and the bathroom floor. So they don't get done NEARLY as much as they should. I have heard they can leave a build up. What are your experiences.

Maybe it was just the cheap Meijer store brand swiffer pads I bought? There wet pads work really well but their swiffer duster refills suck. So I'll try regular swiffer pads to see. A dyson is out of the question right now and every regular vacuum I've tried just shots crap all over the floor.

Maybe I just need to shave the three dogs like I do to the cat. :teehee:

Roomba! I swear by ours. Our entire first floor is hardwood and I tried the regular vaccum and it seemed to scratch the finish. When I got Rhonda the Roomba Mr JM rolled his eyes at me. One day and he was hooked. Every morning when I put the dogs out I turn her on. She runs for a while and eventually goes back to her home spot. I find if I run her every day I don't have to empty the canister as often while she is running. If I haven't run her for a few days I have to stop her about every 15 mins and empty her.

She gets under the tables and does the area rugs in the kitchen too. All I do is follow up with wet swiffer every few days if I feel like it. She really is the best!
