You'd be surprised how the solid ones can swim.. I thought for sure Piper would sink she is a "brick" (that's what we call her since she is just solid muscle), but she actually loves the water the most and swam great, even at the beach!

I am going to the NC coast for Memorial Day ---and was wondering how to drag Mick down to the beach... not to mention trying to get her near water. I can't wait to see her reaction! Kady, I'm going to have my camera at the ready. If she so much as wags her tail you're gonna hear all about it! :teehee:

If you are with anyone with other dogs (as long as she's okay with other dogs), use them to your advantage! I took my guys to the beach for the first time and was sure that Piper wouldn't TOUCH the water, but as soon as Wilson, Sako & my friends dogs flew in, she went right in after them!

Ruby, my other dog, will be there. She is alpha, Mick is beta ;)

When it rains, pours or snows, Ruby stands out in it and Mick stays inside.

It's not so much his solidness that worries me, it's Riley's lack of legs. They're just so stubby I can't see them being useful in keeping him afloat.

One of Kassandra's dogs is a dork about swimming. He loves to go in my pond and *try* to swim, but something about his efforts make his little body go more under water and his little nose poke out. She had to get him a life jacket for his visits up here, so he can swimfloat. It's pretty cute, actually. We took the dogs to the river once and Mr. K had the life vest on and when we were walking across the river he'd just grab the handle of the life vest and those legs would still be a-kickin'!

Love the photos!

Say, I think the "Kiss a Pit" idea is great - can you give me any info on how it was organized? Our shelter is always overrun with pitties/pit mixes and as you know they get a bad rap. I think something like that would be a great fundraiser!

My friend just did this last weekend with one of her dogs (same friend with the dock dog, actually),

I think it's up to the shelter to organize it, but it always seems to do well at any event I've ever been to!
