It is for experiences like Jilli's that have always made me think I'd like to be a barn owner. No crazy people, please, but I would want to provide a place for people who are like-minded to keep their horses. Like Kassandra's new trail place - sounds awesome. Lots of turnout, grazing, plentiful hay, fresh water, arenas with good footing, trail access. Come on, it shouldn't have to be so hard!!!! :brickwall:

I absolutely agree! I think a co-op between a few really great people could work too. I had three friends at my last barn that I would have swapped horse care with in a HEARTBEAT. We all cared for our animals the same way and spent the same amount of time caring for them each day.

I've run barns before and it really isn't that hard to provide good, consistent care. :sigh:

Totally agree, but"like-minded" is the key . . . and the hard part. In trying to find new people for my little 4-horse co-op as stalls have opened up over the years, I've found that after weeding out the crazy and/or the lazy, there aren't many people left!

It seems water bucket filling labor is expensive! Never gets done in my experience! Do they have a hose to reach her stall? That helps!

Jaci why can't you use a garbage can? You may have to care for it yourself but Luna would always have water

It's just as easy for me to take care of her bucket myself, Steph. If I go out of town, then I will probably put a much bucket in there full of water. Cross your fingers, but she's had clean and full buckets for three days now! Hay has stayed good since my last conversation with him last week :luck:

I went to the office today to ask about updates for EHV-1 and our barn being closed...and when I entered he VISIBLY winced! WHen he realized I didn't have a complaint he was very very agreeable. perhaps I am learning how to work this particular wheel.

BTW, worked Luna today in the big ring again and she was STELLAR! Her movement has improved, from Oirish cart pony to decent hunter movement. I think the bigger shoes have helped in that department. I also talked to the trainer that is going to be the first up on her and told her I think in two weeks we will be ready. :innocent: :luck: In the past couple of weeks I haven't pushed her too hard, either free lunging or on the line trying NOT to elicit a negative response from her, just keep her steady and focused. Today I pushed a bit and when she was lose I really moved her around. Usually this earns a rear-buck-fart-kick sort of response and some serious ripping around. Today just a nice steady canter and some head twists interspersed with some excellent trotting. She was bug-eyed at all the jumps with pretty flowers :teehee:

Well that's an excellent update on all counts! If you've gotten the hay and water issues sorted out and she's working like a big girl, you're 90% of the way there. :cheer: :cheer:

Wow...I totally missed this. Sorry to hear things weren't so great and :luck: that they continue in the better fashion that they are currently going. I'd be pretty pissed if I was paying good money and not getting what I consider the basics. I think everyone has had an problem with their boarding barn at some point, but water is a non-negotiable.

I had a water problem with Elf that was mostly solved by putting a big muck bucket in his run. It gets filled every morning and the BM cleans it once a week or so (but only because she's my friend). Seems to be getting the job done. There are other issues that I don't feel I should have to deal with, but it's been that way forever and my complaining isn't goin to change them. Since I'm dont' want to move from my trainer, I work around them...and gently try to let the situation be known (who knows...maybe someday things will change).
