I am so disappointed to hear this. WTF?!

I feel your pain...boarding your horse where you don't trust the care is the pits!! You can't open up a can of wupass, really, and finding another place is such a PITA!! :brickwall:

I have my fingers crossed that a good fit for you and Luna will be found...

Well unless I want to move her far far away, this seems to be the only option. :( I've talked to several of the trainers and they have all "been there/done that" at the different barns and for the money, this is really it. *le sigh*

I went to the cowboy place and it is just too...what's the word...without facilities for my taste. Just not gonna work. I'll just have to bide my time and hang go out every day. On an up note, the dressage trainer that was also peeved, has offered to keep an eye on Luna for me if I can't come out and I will do the same for her boy so that is a plus.

On a down note, the mare that waas kicked in the hocl had healed up but yesterday she blew a hole out of the scarred area with nasty stuff oozing from it. She was non-weight bearing and is having surgery this morning. Vet suspects bone infection. So a wee ***JINGLE*** for Sonja would be appreciated. Nice little mare. I was thinking about adding Loons to the mare herd, as then she would have decent turnout and grass but this just makes me re-think it all again. I'm nervous.

JIT-- the Loona-tunes is a treat monger, no? If so, can you entice her to use the waterer by putting treats (carrot, apple, whatev is her fave) in it while you're there and maybe she'll get past the "scary" noise? I think if you can get her drinking from the waterer, you'd be in ok shape, since you're going out enough to make sure she has hay. The water is what really worries me because even if you go out every day, you can't insure that she's got water available at all times.

At least you have a "buddy" that you can take turns with as far as checking on things out there. Can you also talk to the barn workers to make sure they don't "forget" her (assuming that yucky BM isn't the one doing the hands on work)?

I feel for you, but hopefully now that you know the issues there, you can work through them.

WOW.. that is horrible. I have been there. At a barn that did not feed hay and messed up the turn out. My OBESE horse turned into a walking skeleton. You could count every one of his vertebrae. I am so sorry you are going through that.

Just a question... did you sign a board contract? Did the contract state the feeding arrangement? At least you might have a piece of paper to help back you up on what is expected. Word of mouth won't but...

Where I boarded, the horses got so much hay, the BO believed eating hay was better than eating her barn. In the summer when it would get SUPER hot, they might forgo grain for a day or two. The horses never missed that.

Glad you found a friend to help you keep an eye on your horse.

I know a GREAT place you could go... :teehee:

Seriously, that sucks. Are they any better at paying attention to the horses in the main barn? I can't remember if Luna had to be outside 24/7 or not, or if it's something that would work out temporarily. What a pain in the ass after having done a long exhausting search and them seemingly perfect...

frenchie...lol I am holding out until we move into the mountains for THAT option. I don't really see any difference between our barns. *le sigh* They do stay a bit mkore dry because they don't have the attached runs like my stall does. So, mine is clean(ish) and dry(ish) every other night. lol

Yup. It does suck. BIG TIME, but at least I know now what they do and don't do.

BG I will try carrots with the waterer and see if that helps any. I agree that the water issue is the most pressing. THey seemed to have the hay issue sorted. Since my last conversation with him she has been getting good hay am/pm.

Jaci -- That sucks royally. Could you put a note on her door along the lines of, "Please don't forget to fill Luna's water buckets?" Or would that start WWIII? I'm just thinking that if the help isn't used to having to fill buckets b/c there are auto waterers, they might just be forgetting and need a reminder. Still inexcusable, but rectifiable. And the BM sounds like a complete asshat. :pissed:

Delia this place is "go to BM ONLY for problems". It would start a war, but I have already mentioned to the guys that she needs water EVERY day and they nodded, so here's hoping. I plan to go out tonight to see if it's done, and if it's not, then I will tell the guys myself in spanish what needs to be done. Screw the BO at this point. Water is not a "quality of care" issue.

;) At least I have nice facilities. :teehee: Gotta focus on something positive or I'm going to pull my hair out.

Oh Jaci, so sorry to hear you are going through all of this with Luna!. Glad that it looks like the hay issue is sorted out though! It must be hard keeping the stall dry when one side is open and she is going in and out eh? I know when Chaz had a stall like that he would much rather stand outside in the rain than being in.

Hope the carrots work in the waterer. She may just get used to it. Most horses do.

Glad to hear youhave some friends there now though and you can watch out for each other's horses. Have you had anyone up on Luna yet?

Not yet BT. I have been doing ground work and will start ground driving her Wednesday. I do have a victim in mind though and she's WILLING!! lol :luck:

Her stall is not completely open on the one side. SHe has a dutch door, but why oh WHY do they want to stand out in the rain when they have a perfectly dry place? I should know this from having them at home. I had a barn and then a shed in the pasture. I would go out in the middle of the night during bad storms to bring them in...ecpecting to find them in the shed...hope. Out in the rain...munching grass and looking at me like, "hey! What are you doing out here?" Oi. That's why I basically overlook the stall. SHe's tromping in and out so much it's hard to tell...but it STINKS as does she from the urine. I guess that means she's hydrated. lol

I'm just trying not to drive myself crazy at this point. I've been fairly miserable the past two weeks and it's just not healthy and there doesn't seem to be a valid solution. :( THere are worse problems out there so I will just try to look for the good stuff and suck it up.

RNB, I just signed up. I am looking for a new home for Tigger -- even though I thought I had settled on one, I am not 100% convinced this is the right place for him, so I am still looking and I have a bit of time. I think this is a wonderful idea and I am glad to be able to support it.
