Alright missy -- you cannot post on another topic about barn hi-jinks and regularly working the Toons without providing us, her TOC Aunties, with the details so we can support you, laugh with you, cry with you and encourage you.

How is the weather? And house selling/buying coming along?

Oh LD, it's just too annoying for words. Turns out this place is great at telling you what you want to hear...not so great on delivering.

Since her arrival the horse never has hay. NEVER. Worse yet, her water buckets are empty all the time and only get filled every other day or so. Consequently when I take her out to work her she nearly breaks my arm trying toget to a trough to drink. She has auto waterer in her stall but she won't drink from it, which I have told the BO about. I have complained (nicely) every week about the lack of hay and water, then waited through the week to see if it's rectified (showing up 1/2 hour after they feed AM/PM) and it never is. She gets about 1 flake of hay morning and evening. They seem to not be giving her ANY hay in the AM most days and I honestly believe they skip or forget her. In the AM she never even has evidence (long stems) of any hay. BO always tells me "well I know she got hay last night".

So, this past weeks new fun was a cold front that came through one night. She has an attached pen. I arrive at ten in the AM to find her standing out in the pen (it's 35 degrees and RAINING...stupid mare). No blanket. Wet to the core. Shiverring. SO I call the BO to tell him that she either needs her blanket on (it's inclulded in the board) or he needs to close her in her stall if it's wet and we have a HUGE temp drop. I also let him know that they are still not giving her any hay to speak of and that I'm very concerned about the water. He tells me perhaps I should move to a barn where I would be "happy". I tell him I am not asking for the moon here and I think his response is inappropriate. So I am now just :sigh:

My problem is if you SAY you're going to give her 6 flakes of hay AM and PM then GIVE HER THE HAY, or tell me you're NOT going to do it and I will either cope or move on. The water there is just no excuse for. I told him before I moved in that she would NOT drink from the waterer and he told me NO PROBLEM...we'll hang buckets. I think he just doesn't follow up with his help to make SURE it's being done. BTW, every OTHER horse in the barn has hay...even ones that are getting "less" than she is. I know she is an efficient machine, but there is NO way she can finish 6 flakes of hay in less than an hour!

I find out from another trainer that boards here (actually two ) that this is pretty much the way he is; tell you what you want to hear, then don't correct it.

The past three days she has had LOADS if hay and her buckets are full (but not clean) so I am hopeful but still looking at other barns. KMD is livid at thie guys response and wnts me to move...SOON. *le sigh*

I haven't even gotten to worry about the turnout situation...big mare that has injured not one but two horses in the past month...so Luna stays in private half day turnout with no grass (hence the hay issue) or the fact that her stalls smells so bad because there is never any shavings in it from either the wind (certainly not their fault) or them not putting any shavings back in. :lonely: Those just seem low in the priority list right now. Oi. I think her stall gets most of the wind and rain...lol It's on the north corner. Weather is changing though, so hopefull it will be great for the summer.

So here I sit.

I HAVE been lunging her quite a bit. Yesterday we made it ALL THE WAY up to the arena that no one uses. It is at the top of a HUGE hill with just unbelieveable views. I also walk her a lot around the entire property and let her hand graze. It's difficult to use the indoor as they won't let you in before 9 AM and there is always so many riders in there, but hopefully when the outdoor is done (which is supposed to be soon) the load will lighten up for us. She has been very good, with the exception of the weird front that came through. It was sleeting pretty hard so I took her to the indoor to hand walk her for a bit. There were two trainers there; one hand walking another horse and one riding. We had been in there for a good 20 minutes when I walked her near one of the open windows. The slush started sliding off the roof and her eyes started to bug out then she just left. I called "heads up" and thankfully she cantered down to the other end and just stopped cold and waited for me. I apologized and excused ourselves fro the ring. Thankfully they just laughed it off and said, "Poor thing just doesn't know what to make of all this". It made me think of BT who told me about snow sliding off the arena roof there. It is kind of scary!

Home front: our home is Texas has picked up on viewings, so hopefully not long. We've looked at a couple of houses here and are narrowing down the areas we like. I am hopeful that by the end of the year it will all be worked out! I am just so frustrated and sad that tha barn isn't working that it is really bumming me out.

LD...KMD wants to know when you are coming for a visit ;)

If you can, move her. You are paying too much for this kind of shoddy treatment. And his ATTITUDE ... I would have said not a problem. We will be outta here as soon as we can. I feel very bad for all of you because this place had so much promise as an almost horsey Eden.

Glad to hear viewings are picking up. I keep sending house selling vibes and prayers your way so I hope something happens soon on that front. I was hoping to get out to your neck of the woods this summer, but I have to go to Singapore and may be spending more time in that part of the world than before, but we will have to see. I do want to get out there soon and I have someone here who wants to go skiing there. He is not allows to fall down though :)

I am sending lots of hugs and beaucoup ** jingles ** that the barn situation sorts itself out very very soon.

PS: I dont have your new mailing address. Please send it to me :)

Btw -- is she sstill loosing weight? What else are they feeding her? I am very glad that she does not have to go out with that other mare. Tigger's turn out buddy is a bit of a brute and I wish there was another option, but sadly there is not. I worry every time I go to the barn about what new cut/scrapes/missing pieces of hide I am going to find on him.

Yes she has lost weight, which is a good thing, but it's too fast! She gets a cup of alfalfa pellets with supplements and some beet pulp from me but that's it.

I know...everyone has had the same response about moving her. I'm working on it. :)

Will send addy. SINGAPORE? I knew you travelled so what gives on the "spending more time there"? Tell Head wound Harry that he can come ski anytime...but NO falling down! lol KMD is sying to ski too, so perhaps next ski season...when we have our house?!?!?!?

Aww, that's so disappointing!!! She's a big mare -- 2 flakes of hay just aint going to cut it! I'd be really mad, because I know it was above your price range at first and you went for it anyway.

When we boarded Kaylee last winter she never had any hay in front of her either. I realize that stalled horses are going to eat it up pretty quickly, but if they are wuffling through dirty bedding to find scraps of hay....they need more hay. My horses at home won't eat hay that's has poop *near* it....let alone on it.

Definitely look around; it's great that it has improved a bit but don't wait to find another option until you're really fed up. It's too much $$ to pay to be annoyed and neglected. (Not to mention the attitude....ahem....wanting FOOD for my horse isn't exactly being demanding!) :sigh: :mallet:

OK, Jaci, just let them know that 3Bays is gonna ride her kickass cowpony from Arid-Zona on up to Clodder-Addo and WHUP 'EM if they don't start treating you and Miss Luna RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will NOT be a pretty picture if I have to set that barn manager right on your behalf, let me tell ya! :tomato:  :pissed:

Seriously, though, realllllllly sorry you have had such a disappointing situation evolve there...I had something similar when I got my QH (The Doctor) before we moved to the little ranchette we now own...went through FOUR barns...same deal...BIG talk, NO action...and I fired that first three. Lucked out nicely on the fourth try...realllllly nice folks and they did a great job at a decent price. But wow...it's not brain surgery!

Sounds like greed and lack of care about the welfare of their boarder's horses...they are making a "profit' via starving their boarders' horses!!!!! NOT ON MY WATCH!!!!!!!!!! I'm with KMD...kick them to the curb as soon as you might find something better! AND if anyone ever asks you in the future, tell the truth...don't recommend those jerks to anyone! They will DESERVE the lack of business.

I have NO patience or kindness for ANYONE who would make money off of the suffering of an animal. PERIOD. :pissed:

Finding a good barn for our horses is so hard. Exactly why I drag my feet on moving Rosie. I was perturbed with my barn this week but in the end Rosie was sound, well fed and happy! I hope you can find something better soon!

Oh crap Jaci that just stinks.

Boarding is so tough, because you never know for sure what a place is going to be like until you actually move in. It is impossible to gauge until you live it. I guess that's why I keep going back to the same barn, I know the demons and how to work around them! ;) The thing is it is not like you are making crazy demands!! I mean come on, water and hay are pretty basic.

Hopefully you are able to find another situation that is a little more.... normal?! I'll be thinking of ya, keep us posted!

That sucks Jilli! There are certain things I can tolerate with boarding but lack of hay and water are not two of them. It seemed like such a nice place but it's hard to know what skeletons are hiding in the closets until you get behind the doors.

I hope you can find a good place to move her to soon!

Water buckets are a hard one to get! Bodie was a hay dunker and his water was always an issue. No matter how I begged and pleaded his buckets were not taken care of. I found getting to know the barn help works best! If they really understand they can be the best answer!

Hay and water are pretty basic needs - and pretty easy to provide. The BM at your current place was formerly the BM at a big facility here in my area. The customers didn't like him and it sounds like the same deal as you are getting, he talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

I'm fortunate in that I've only ever dealt with one crappy boarding situation in all of my years of boarding. Every place else the care was exactly as I was told up front. It may not have always been exactly how *I* would have done things but there were no surprises. At least it sounds like things have improved a bit. Like I said, hay and water are pretty basic things when it comes to horse care, and it always surprises me that some barns actually seem to struggle to provide them.

jilli, this sucks - what a disappointment!

Can you put a big garbage pail in her stall for water? That way the workers don't have to fill it every day and she'll always have enough.

A big girl like Luna Tuna cannot subsist on 2 flakes of hay per day! Jeez Louise, what are these people thinking???!!! :brickwall: :brickwall:
