I should have NEVER read this thread. Last night I could not get to sleep because I was certain all kinds of creepy things were crawling under the covers with me. :o

Fishy, you're in California, right? I believe (but I'm not positive, so you should check) that rabies in the western states is not anywhere near as common as it is here on the east coast, so hopefully the tiny critters gnawing on Fishy in the night are just creepy, not rabid.

Well let me put y'all's minds at ease. I called the nurse helpline and she said that small rodents rarely have rabies and are not known to transmit rabies to humans. So I think I'll be fine! ;)
Hhhmmmmm. Alright. Maybe.

:lonely:

You're sure it's a small rodent, though, and not a bat? :sigh:

Well, that's a bit reassuring.

I spent my whole life in the Northeast and that's where TBF is, too, so it makes sense that we're a little more freaked out by it that the rest of you, who seem to think it's FUNNY that FISHY MIGHT END UP LIKE OLD YELLER!

Yea gods, insensitive lot, all of you. :argh:

Except, TBF.

;)

Since Fishy started this tale, I have been checking under the bed, shaking out blankets, thumping pillows and whacking the mattress every night before bed. Mr. Diva asked one night what I was doing. I said checking for things in my bed like snakes and mice and bats. He said oh. We got into bed, said our good nights and just as I was relaxing, mr, diva reached over and touched my shoulder. After he pulled me off of the ceiling and stopped laughing at my reaction to his touch. I could not go to sleep.

Actually true. I believe I am correct in stating that there has never been a confirmed case of rabies in a rodent. Squirrel, rat, mouse... I learned this in my wildlife rehab class...but can't confirm the source. I'm thinking the vet at the center???

Anyway...the distance between the "bruises" on your feet would suggest a bat that is DOG sized...unless it was two seperate bites.

Poor LD, I hate it when men do that! My ex-husband used to do stuff to try to scare me and it pissed me off!

I looked up incidents of rabies and in 2009 in the 49 US states and PR (Hawaii doesn't have rabies and I assume Alaska was left out?) there were 4 human cases. Not sure where they were, though.

The spots on the bottom of my foot wouldn't be a bat, those bites would be a LOT smaller and closer together. Plus, I haven't seen a bat in the house since 2009! :teehee:

In all likelihood one of the cats used my foot as a spring board and dug its claws into my feet as it jumped off the bed, although I would think there would be longer scratches and four of them that match cat's paws. Who knows what was on my hand the first time. But I do know the mouse bit me!!!! :jaw:

Mr. Diva was very naughty, and should remember that he has to fall asleep sometime, but you can sit there plotting revenge thanks to the fact that he scared the snot out of you and you can't sleep now.

I wonder if the foot scratches were the cat, but because of the blankets only minimal contact occured. But you might remind the kitties that JRT's don't bring home partially dead things that they are trying to train the human to hunt with and let them go to attack mommy, and that kitties can be replaced.

I have to go now and check under my bed again.
