We have a navy Seal here at work that was mysteriously gone for 2 weeks about the time of, and is back today. We have been teasing him about his not so secret mission (no not for one minute do I believe he was involved directly, but it is fun)

Actually, my understanding is Geraldo Rivera supposedly said Obama instead of "Osama is dead" I didn't see this so I can't say it's true, but it would be easy to do in the heat of the moment on live tv. Actually, arabic names do vary according to who's spelling them, and I know Kaddafi has so many variations that it drives indexers and librarians cuckoo.

On Monday morning I heard several NPR reporters slip and say Obama rather than Osama. But a Fox News TV reporter took the cake -- right after the President's press conference on Sunday night, the guy said, "President Obama is dead." :o Perhaps that's why Fox now is using Usama rather than Osama. ;)

OK, I hope I don't throw a huge rock in the pond here, but I honestly am sitting here with ?????????'s all over my head!

Can someone PLEASE tell me why we now have had (if I've counted right?) FOUR distinctively different stories about the whole attack and killing of Obama?

The fog of war? Puh=leeeeezzzzzzzz....surgical strike special forces have VERY concise post-op reports (I know because I was married to one)and something that rehearsed and with our modern technology instantly available for reporting the odds on FOUR different stories emanating out of the Team Six group is seriously small. My father was on the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon for a number of years...I have some understanding about such operations from what he told me...and that was during the VietNam war when the use of field telephones internationally was cutting edge...when operations were done (especially special forces surgical strikes) ONE PERSON is given the "point" for relaying what happened and it had better be backed up with hard evidence. Boom, Done. And with modern techology we can't get agreement on something this huge and so well rehearsed and "contained" at that compound outside Islmabad? Boggles my mind.

So, what's the deal here? Did he have a gun, yes or no? Did he fire, yes or no? Did he use his wife as a shield, yes or no? Was she shot in the leg only, or killed outright or not hurt at all, yes or no? Was he taken unarmed and then executed, yes or no? I could go on...but yikes the White House ITSELF is changing the stories...these are not from "internet" sources, but the administration itself. It's like there are five people in the administration who are "responsible for communications" regarding the operation and outcome, but none of them agree on what happened...and it's changing all the time.

It just all seems so bizarre. :o

Osama... :innocent: ;) We killed OSAMA. I keep making the same error at my house, so we are now referring to the one who was killed simply as "bin laden"

I think it's probably liike a big game of telephone, 3bs. For every perspective there is a different account. I am also pretty certain there are details that we will never be privy to. Really, does it matter that much? I never heard an account of an operation without differing perspectives, political bias, opinion...it ALWAYS gets skewed somewhat. I imagine as the days unfold we will know more, just like the 9/11 attacks.

The briefing I saw (official from WHite House) said yesterday:

he dis not have a gun

he did try to resist

he did not use his wife as a shield...she placed herself in the path

the wife who placed herself in the path was only shot in the leg...another wife or woman on the compound was killed

That is what I heard unlesss it's all changed today. Which is entirely possible.

On MSNBC on Morning Joe a bunch of people kept saying Obama not Osama-I think it's contagious once one person does it.

Frankly, I don't care if he resisted, or if he was sound asleep, as long as the murderous monster is dead I'm happy. The world is a better place without him, his couriers, and if the Pakistanis think anyone is worried about whether his kid was there when he died then they are wrong in my case. I keep thinking about all of the children who were on the plane into the Pentagon, and the kids who watched their parents died on 9/11.

And if Alan Dershowitz thinks I care about his views on the legality and whether shooting to kill was right then he's wrong too. I say we chip in and get him a one way trip to Pakistan and he can start trying to tell that government his views-he wouldn't last a week out of jail. And they should send Michael Moore there too-I'm sick of him whining about the presence of children in the house, and that they 'executed' Bin Laden, I don't care about that either.

It was on MSNBC tonight (on the website) that they already found out that there was a plot to sabotage one or more passenger trains to they would derail over rivers or other canyons near the 9/11 anniversary. The computers and other electronics that were seized are a gold mine. I'm especially looking forward to the info (if we find out about it) on the payments by Al Qaeda to supposed government allies.

I'm wondering why they didn't capture his wife too... I'm sure she would have been quite helpful... but now the Pakistanis are not letting us have access to her or the others the SEALs left behind... that just sounds odd to me.

My guess on that would be that they totaled a heli on the way in. They were simply out of room to take anyone else, being one evacuation vehicle down.

Because I am a geek. I went and looked up the speech that Bush made after Saddam was taken. Just for reference I included the Obama speech. I know many will think I am reading too much into this but I think the way each responds to the situation tells a little about their inner person. I am not a Bush lover nor and Obama hater but I am learning more about the person that each is and I am not liking Obama any more as time goes on. There seems to be a lack of class, of dignity for the office that is currently lacking.

George W. Bush speech after capture of Saddam:

The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq .

The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the

dictator's footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by

a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many

dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and

freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the

nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em.

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the

killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued

our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on

a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread

to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information

about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of

Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and

I authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction,

the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan.
