Americans are dancing in the street celebrating the death of Osama, and the death of thousands of innocent civilians while trying to find him. How is that any different??? No one country is better than the other.
While I disagree with the dancing I don't think *anyone* who is happy about tis death is going "Yes! He is dead and the innocent people too!" I think that is a real stretch to make that assumption.
Agree completely.

I'm relieved that this chapter is over, and there has been a SHRED of justice for the thousands of lives lost because of OBL. I fully realize that Al Q is alive and kicking, and we haven't seen the end of war and terrorism; I don't think anyone here is that naive.

So call me tasteless all you want, but I don't feel one teensy bit of remorse for that monster. I'm with Copper Leaf - he was pure evil and the world is a better place without him.

Oh btw, it's "Usama" Bin Laden now.. I find that laughable.
Why? According to Wikipedia:

There is no universally accepted standard for transliterating Arabic words and Arabic names into English;[8] bin Laden's name was most frequently rendered "Osama bin Laden." The FBI and CIA, as well as other US Governmental agencies, have used either "Usama bin Laden" or "Usama bin Ladin", both of which may be abbreviated as "UBL". Less common renderings include "Ussamah Bin Ladin" and "Oussama Ben Laden" in the French-language media. Other spellings include "Binladen" or, as used by his family in the West, "Binladin". The spellings with "o" and "e" come from a Persian-influenced pronunciation also used in Afghanistan, where bin Laden spent many years.

Well, Wiki is.. a less than stellar source, since anyone and their mom can change it.

I find it funny because he's always been "Osama" in the media, until now. I won't say anything else though.

Well, that's just one source, there are other out there. I'm genuinely curious as to what your issue is with the spelling of the name one way vs. another?

I don't get it either--the funniness of this is going right over my head.

To say I am not religious would be a bit of an understatement; however, I do agree with what the Vatican said.

"Osama Bin Laden had the gravest responsibility for spreading hatred and division among people, causing the deaths of countless people, and exploiting religion for this purpose.

Faced with the death of a man a Christian never rejoices but reflects on serious responsibility of everyone before God and man, hopes, pledges that every event is not an opportunity for a further growth of hatred, but of peace.”

While I do find it in poor taste as well as inflammatory to be celebrating in the streets over his death, I am relieved that he's gone. He was pure evil.

I don't want to make waves here but I find it interesting that some of the posters who seem to be the most disgusted by it are not Americans. That man spearheaded something that cut our country to the core and I just don't know if you can fully understand how we all felt on 9/11 if you aren't an american.

I personally don't feel bad being happy as hell that we took him out, and am proud it was a seal team from good old VA that did it! Guess he got his virgin-ians in the end after all!

Well quoted, doubledare. I am not a Christian either, but that quote just about covers my sentiments.

As for the name issue, I studied Arabic in college (intending to become a foreign service officer after 9/11). I could care less how people pronounce OBL's name, but for the record, what you read in Wikipedia is accurate. The Arabic letter at the beginning of his name is phonetically closer to a "u" sound, like in "uber lame" or "usurp," than an "oh" sound as implied by the spelling "Osama." But whatever you call him, I hope his demise brings more peace and not more hatred and terrorism.

Oh c'mon guys.. Osama.. Obama.. one letter difference. Which to me, is probably the reason the media is now referring to him as Usama.

For the record, I'm not the one who said that first, a group of friends and I were talking and one noticed that the spelling had changed.

Yup, I think it's funny that the media has all of the sudden changed the spelling. Call me weird, doesn't bother me.

Oh - I'm not sure why the second comment went over your head.. it's pretty cut & dry.

LOL, see this is why I never get involved in political talk.

LOL, I knew someone would say "You're not American, you could never understand what it feels like". I can't speak for the others, but I have spent my fair share of time in the USA and anyone who knows me, knows I would love nothing more than to live there. I spent my day on 9/11 in my French class room watching the news over and over again, much like any other kid my age. To add to that, Canada has sent many soldiers over there to fight the SAME fight, and had soldiers come back dead just the same.

I don't need to be American to know the kind of hurt and fear and anger he caused on 9/11. And I don't need to be American to know that our soldiers and your soldiers have cause the same hurt and fear and anger in Pakistan when killing Pakistani soldiers and innocent civillians.

I do believe he got what was fairly deserved, but I don't believe it will change a thing about the future.

What media? I haven't seen this anywhere? Is this like one of those spam emails that tells you all sorts of "facts" that snopes says isn't true?
