Totally agree, Rachel. Although, as I am reading this thread I realize its hard not to politicalize most things these days. There's not much that could ever make me feel that war is right, and maybe that's why I don't understand celebrating OBL's death, but stance on war is definitely political. No one *ever* wins in war, and even with OBL dead this war is not over. Killing OBL took the lives of thousands and thousands of American and Canadian soldiers, what is there to celebrate in that? So what now? Ramp up the security in case of retaliation. Send over more troops to possibly not come home alive. Live in fear that OBL Jr might be planning the next attack right now. Sure, it's nice to know that the mastermind behind 9/11 is dead, but that doesn't bring back all of the people who died on 9/11 or the soldiers who died overseas or the innocent civilians who died in Pakistan. All of those innocent deaths make me feel infinitely more sad than knowing OBL is dead makes me feel relieved. |

I agree JTM, I don't really celebrate the killing of anyone. And I think of all the thousands and thousands of civilians that have been killed over the last 10 years in Iraq and Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sorry, it just makes me really, really sad. We have killed far more innocent people than OBL ever has. And that worst part is it is our close "friendship" with the Saudis that made it impossible to bring justice to OBL in the way that he should have. Really, several wars, thousands of innocent people killed, to get one person? Really? When will we start to ask the important questions? |

I too am glad that he has been found but I doubt his death will change much. He was a criminal of the highest order and he deserved to meet his end, but I do not personally believe in celebrating violence. I think it lowers us as a society. But hey, that's just my personal opinion. |

I think the celebrations are in distinct response to how we as Americans are hated! Dancing in the streets, burning our flag etc! Years of seeing this. I do not approve of these wars but I did not start them! Wish I could say I feel for him but I don't!I am most proud that we did it. I c an't believe it!i

Americans are dancing in the street celebrating the death of Osama, and the death of thousands of innocent civilians while trying to find him. How is that any different??? No one country is better than the other. |

We are not all dancing. As an American I feel particularly sad that this day had to come. But it had to. To me I am not celebrating all the related deaths. I never did but OBL has special meaning to a lot of people who family members were killed on 9-11. I put my self in their shoes when I feel any senses over his death! |

Totally agree. I understand why some people are doing it but I don't think it is appropriate and certainly not the response I choose. It needed to be done. It is done. I am not sad about it. End of story. |

While I disagree with the dancing I don't think *anyone* who is happy about tis death is going "Yes! He is dead and the innocent people too!" I think that is a real stretch to make that assumption. |
