I am not discounting Sako's accomplishments one bit so please don't think I am BUT... UKC is not 'as' difficult to get a championship in. However if you have the competition, you have the competition. I don't think you have the issue with "majors" like you do in AKC, but you do have to beat the opposite sex at some point, and there is something else. My friend got her CH on her Cardigan Corgi in a manner of 4-5 shows tops. When she was at the Premier where she got most of her points, she only had to compete against one other dog. Not much competition.... However UKC the owner MUST handle, no professionals. They frown on that. That is how they really differentiate themselves from AKC. They wanted a place the average joe dog owner could do well. UKC is a fun organization, just different.

You know.. a simple "Congrats" would've been great.. no need to go into details about how UKC is "easy" to get Ch. It was mine & Sako's first show, I feel like we did pretty darn good!
OMG... I was not discounting. I apologize!!! Not my intention. Heck for all I know you had a ton of dogs in your class, and then well it is not 'easy'. My point is you don't need the 'majors'..

I apologize Kady... I didn't mean to......

Aww, I didn't take her post as discounting your win, but trying to explain the difference. They do have a very long rules book and I couldn't figure out how it worked.

The fact that you won in your first show is amazing! Because even if professionals aren't part of the competition there are a lot of very accomplished owner/handlers who make it look really easy and it's not!

PS do I remember that you can't bait your dog? I don't know how we'd manage without food. ;)

Here's the points system, btw, thank god I found this because I really had no clue how many points we got:

For breeds without varieties

Regular Class
(Puppy, Junior, Senior, Adult or Breeder/Handler 10

Best Male 15

Reserve Best Male 0

Best Female 15

Reserve Best Female 0

Best of Winners 10

A minimum of 100 championship points
Points must be earned under at least three different UKC licensed Judges, and
Win three Best Male/Female (or higher) classes at three different shows with competition under three different UKC licensed Judges.

So Sako got 50 points and 2 majors (according to my UKC friends) yesterday.

Many judges don't allow bait in UKC, because they feel the dog should be shown in it's natural state. Yesterday they did though, although most people didn't use it. I carried some with me, but didn't use it much.
