MT2 -- Yup, Richmond is about half an hour from my house. Is Gimme coming up or just his breeder? We are pretty busy that weekend -- marathon weekend in town and I am running in the 10K -- but I would love to come to a dog show.

Aww, no we're not coming. I'd love to someday, though. It's Gimme's dad....he's a Canuck. ;) He lives near Montreal but I guess they're going to that show in Richmond. So if you're in the area with nothing to do it might be fun. But sounds like a busy weekend to go watch total strangers!! Thanks for thinking of us, though! :cloud9: Good luck in the 10K....soo jealous!!! Need to get my butt moving and start racing again!!

Congratulations Finn!!!! That is FABULOUS and such a young age. WAY TO GO!!!!

Tarragon, I have to agree if you can go at all YOU MUST attend your National Specialty. I went to Labrador National a couple years ago, it was the best show I have even attended. A ton of fun. We are hoping to go this year but it is in Connecticut, and would involve a long period off work. So not sure, I want to.

Just got this from our breeder this morning:

Gimme's mom at the Sydney Royal show in Australia - Group 3! I guess it's a huge show of over 3000 dogs, although I'm not sure all of them compete in conformation....guess it's quite the extravaganza of everything -- conformation, agility, obedience, etc. :woot:

Anyway, apparently a huge win. Cool how they do shows there, too -- champions and non-champions compete together!

Haha I didn't even think to say anything! Yes UKC has points, he got.. uhh.. 40 or 50 points today? I need to ask one of my show friends. I'm pretty sure he's halfway to his Ch. though. No pictures today, too busy!

If you want to look up UKC events, they're all here: http://www.ukcdogs.com/WebSite.nsf/WebPages/DogFindingAShow

UKC is SO fun.. it's all owner handling, and much more laid back than AKC.

Oh I did take a picture of his ribbons..

  Purdy ribbons! :cheer: :cheer: That's awesome Kady, good boy Sako :one: He was obviously really good for you :woot:

I didn't even know there was a UKC as well as an AKC? So much to learn...so little time :teehee: Just figuring out the classes keeps me on my toes, everybody just keeps going back in the ring until you go :psycho: And then the different shows....boosters, specialties, sanction matches....

And Sako can show in ADBA too (it's a Pit Bull registry).. so he's triple registered! He probably wouldn't do well in ADBA though, they're more for the "gamey" type APBT's. Might do some just for fun though.

Cool ribbons!!!! <3

Doesn't look like there really are any UKC shows in my area. A few in NYC but that's all. I guess that's why I've never seen any? I wonder if they are more common in different parts of the US?

YAY   Sako, that is amazing!

UKC is not "as" popular as AKC, they are all over the nation, just not as plentiful and harder to find. I often hear about trials after they happen. Sometimes I find the event search for UKC is less user friendly. Michigan is the home base for UKC so there are a few here.

I am not discounting Sako's accomplishments one bit so please don't think I am BUT... UKC is not 'as' difficult to get a championship in. However if you have the competition, you have the competition. I don't think you have the issue with "majors" like you do in AKC, but you do have to beat the opposite sex at some point, and there is something else. My friend got her CH on her Cardigan Corgi in a manner of 4-5 shows tops. When she was at the Premier where she got most of her points, she only had to compete against one other dog. Not much competition.... However UKC the owner MUST handle, no professionals. They frown on that. That is how they really differentiate themselves from AKC. They wanted a place the average joe dog owner could do well. UKC is a fun organization, just different.

They're pretty popular in the South, from what I know. I'm so happy we have them around here, because the people are so nice, helpful, and it's just fun at their shows.

You know.. a simple "Congrats" would've been great.. no need to go into details about how UKC is "easy" to get Ch. It was mine & Sako's first show, I feel like we did pretty darn good!
