I don't mean to post more depressing stuff on the board...especially after reading about Miss Zuni prepping to pass the rainbow bridge. But, I think my dear dear Chancinator (real name, Chancie) will be joining her soon. She just isn't herself. The vet warned me this time would come. She isn't suffering or in pain, I'm sure of it. She is eating, drinking just fine. But, her tumors are growing and she is just slowing down. I'm just sad  but, mainly for my own selfish reasons. I don't want her to suffer...but she is supposed to live forever because she takes care of me.

***JINGLES*** for you and for Chancie, APP.

You will know when it's time. You just will, because you don't want them to suffer and linger.

You will know.

If you want a better answer than that:

They will start to loose that glimmer in their eye. Kind of just become a dark and hollow eye.

When it becomes difficult to keep weight on.

When they struggle to get up, or do not want to lay down.

When there are more good days than bad.

Max told us loud and clear, so did out lab Shadow. You will know, and until then you will question.

Older aging loved furry friends are so hard.

I have always worried about waiting too long or not waiting long enough. Its such a hard decision. But each time I have had that moment where I heard them loud and clear. When my lab Leo was so sick with cancer I had many sleepless nights fretting over him and worrying with each little change. But the day I woke up and looked over at him and he didn't look me in the eye I knew without a doubt it was time. And he was like that all day (I wanted to go to my vet in Jackson, 3 hours from Memphis and my mom wanted to see him). We had corndogs and ice cream on the way but he just was so distant. He was finally ready.

Ross, my moms jrt had lymphoma and could no longer swallow.

I have never had to make that decision about a horse though I have lost a couple but I have worked at vet clinics and witnessed owners struggling with this issue. You will know, I promise. My only advice is to not worry about making the decision a day too early... for your benefit as well as hers do it when you can be in control of the day. Particularly when sewing with tumors and illness as opposed to just old age things can go south very quickly and the last thing you want for either of you is to get in a situation where she is in distress and the whole situation becomes panicked.

Huge hugs girl...

I asked the exact same questions when my Chessie was nearing the end of his battle with diabetes, and I agonized over whether I'd know when it was time, but without a doubt when the time came I knew. Everyone here told me that I would know when it was time, and I still worried about it, but they were right. Lar told me he was ready to go just as clearly as if opened his mouth and spoke to me.

I'm so sorry about your Chancie, hugs to you both
