After going through a life change I've decided to buy myself something small and memorable to remind myself how strong I (and other women) are. I don't want to go into the meaning behind wanting to buy something to mark this change. But, I just want a comfort piece to look at on a day to day basis. I'm not a knick knack person at all...so its a bit odd. But, I dreamt about doing this and decided its what I want to do :)

I'm also going to make myself a little herb garden for my patio. Can I put all of the herbs in one bit pot? I'm not a plant person, but I try!

Since horses have been such a comforting part of my life I'd like to find something related to them or related to yoga. Something that brings out comfort, balance, and inner peace. If you have any ideas or suggestions please post!

My decor is super shabby chic, french, hollywood glamor, etc. But, I have one hand carved wooden sculpture from Bali that is the goddess of beauty, pureness, and love. I absolutely adore that statue! The more unique the better, imo.

Any suggestions?

You can do a container herb garden, or a cluster of pots with various herbs. Where are you located? Some herbs are perennials (depending on your zone), some will be annuals. There are also some great cold-hardy edible ornamentals that look great in containers like kale, mustard or chard.

I live in Austin, Texas. Could I plant now? Or, is it too late?

Austin should be zone 8, you can certainly plant now.

Be careful with your choice of containers, as clay or pottery pots are really bad about cracking and breaking if you have a hard freeze. Also, they are really heavy if you have to move them around. Bigger is always better with containers, because pots dry out quickly and don't insulate roots as well. I really like the fiberglass planters, they're lightweight, hold up well and come in every size, shape, color and style imaginable. Herbs also like a really well-drained soil, so fill your container with a good potting mix- either a commercial mix or you can make your own by mixing equal parts garden soil, perlite and peat moss.

Herbs you can plant now, and that should be winter hardy for you-
rosemary
lavender (English, the Spanish has a showier bloom but can't take the cold at all)
sage (the variegated, either green and gold or tri-color tastes just as good but looks much prettier in your garden)
chives
oregano
thyme (again, I love the variegated variety)
parsley (I find the flat-leaf Italian parsley can handle heat better than the curly kind)

Can't help with the herbs but after I got divorced I got myself a necklace kind of for the same purpose that you are commenting on. It was a silver Celtic horse knot charm, kind of like this one: http://www.treasuredfinds.com/Product-Large/800a-140-Celtic-Horse-Knot-Amulet.htm

I wore it every day for a long time. Don't remember when or why I took it off but it was sometime after falling in love with Mr. Fishy. I know it is only a piece of jewelry, but I assigned a special meaning to it and felt like it was my very own secret with special powers. ;)

Fishy, interesting that you mentioned jewelry. I was thinking about the same thing...maybe a special bracelet. There's lots of beautiful horse jewelry available. OR, you could get something silver from Tiffany's and engrave it with something meaningful to you.

I was going to mention a piece of jewelry. Something to keep on to remind yourself how strong you are.

Ladies, I was randomly invited to a jewelry show last night! How funny is that? The show was beautiful and I ended up buying a gorgeous necklace. If I had a camera I'd take pictures. But, I lent it to a friend who lost it abroad :(

http://www.reneguestjewelry.com/

There is a link to her site...its quite unique! The piece I bought is a beautifully cut smoky chocolate topaz (or something?). I forgot what they call it. The chain is pretty short and it is made of sterling silver, copper, etc. and you can hardly tell but every single link is handmade. I'll see if I can get my friend to take a picture of it with her camera.

My mom and I are starting our Xmas shopping before our NYC trip. She said its time for me to get another 'special' piece of jewelry which means a trip to my favorite store, David Yurman! Yay!

Gah, worst day EVER, again! I have to take my mom back into the hospital because she is so mentally unstable I think she will kill herself. It's so hard...and not what I need right now at all.

I'll keep everyone updated. Wish me strength because I need it.

A neighbor called to police because of the commotion she was making. The mental care officer's managed to calm her down enough to put her in the car. Now she's off at the hospital and will be there for a very long time. Why does sh*t always hit the fan all at once? I will never understand that!

I'll be off meeting with my therapist tmrw...I need it.
