I just have to shout it from the mountain tops! I am so proud of my dog Belle. Six months ago she suffered an FCE, and was temporarily paralyzed. Fortunately for us, the damage really was not too significant. This past weekend she finished her qualifying requirements to run at the AKC National Agility Championships next April!!!! She was one double Q away from qualifying when her FCE happened. She came back to competition in Oct, and I was hopeful, but not sure we could get it done. The qualifying period ends 11/30. I am SO glad we qualified before the last chance weekend. I am entered to run at that trial, but now we can just have fun and not worry about the looming deadline. We still need 5 QQ's to finish her PAX, hopefully that weekend with no pressure, we can get another one toward that. More than one would be awesome but not being greedy! So I will be at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington the first weekend in April... if you are in the neighborhood stop by! Not sure I could be found or find you but would LOVE to try... Hey Imjumpin you best be coming by! LOL Ann Edited by Casey1, Nov 15 2010, 07:17 AM.

Huge congratulations to you and Belle!!! I've just started learning about Agility, with the idea of trying it with Logan when he's old enough. It's such a neat sport! Best of luck to you at the Championships! |

Congrats! I did a beginner Agility class about a month ago with Wilson. He really liked it, and is totally fearless. But the trainer kind of sucked, and there really aren't many others around here, so I'm not sure we'll be able to do much more with it. |

Yay Ann Congrats!!!! Very exciting, particularly to have it done already before the last chance weekend! We have to complete Gr 4 obedience in order to start agility at the place I go to but they have a fantastic arena full of fun stuff. Milo and I went for an introductory session after we graduated from gr 3 and he loved it! I really would love to do some more with him. So much fun. Also would love to get Finn doing it, he's so curious and SO fast it would be a blast! Good girl Belle

FCE is fibrocartilogenous embolism basically as stroke in her spine. I think I posted about it when it happened. Scared the PANTS off me. She all of the sudden could not use her back end. Off to the E vet (it was a Sunday of course AND her 7th birthday), they did not correctly diagnose her but put her on steroids which is the drug of choice for FCE. My vet sent us to a neurologist, and he diagnosed the FCE. He told me let her be a dog, how far she can come back is depending on her and how much actual damage was done. Some dogs are completely paralyzed and do not come back, some end up needing a cart for their back ends and some like Belle are more lucky. She has coordination issues behind, and laying down, getting up are still difficult, but she can still jump. I keep her fit, strong and in good exercise. We do some work with weighted hind boots to help her connect her front end and back end neurologically. She is not the dog she was before, but her damage was minimal enough. I am so thrilled we got this qualification. I have finally realized why my black girl is SO BIG.... it is to house her GINORMOUS heart! Ann PS the date of her FCE was 5/16/10 Edited by Casey1, Nov 15 2010, 10:17 AM.

CONGRATULATIONS! That's great!!! I was trying to get back on track this fall, but then hubby got hurt and I only got out 3 times. Divot (my blue Cardi) got his 5th leg on his MXJ this weekend and I started him back in FAST and got his Novice FAST title too. I'm hoping he gets his AX this spring so we can start working on qualifying for Nationals. He earns about 8-10 points a JWW run towards his MACH now, so I'd like to double that once we get into Excellent B Standard. By the way, Divot is only 3 and we missed over a year of serious competition due to injuries, moving, etc. What kind of dog do you run? |

YOU GO GIRL!!! No more injuries canine or human (not sure which it was) and next time just say agility is more important (ok fun) than moving. Hope you get back in the ring.Belle is my lab. This past weekend she got her 16th QQ for her PAX. I run her preferred. She is too damn big to jump 24". Too much dog landing off that big jump. Belle has her MJP2 and MXP2. She was really easy to Q on before her FCE. She does great now, but I have to pay attention as a handler and cover some areas. She has to LAND before turning off a triple per se. She turns in the air, she can't cover the spread. I was running a Cardi named Chloe, but I stopped. I loved running the dog, but the owner was seriously getting on my nerves. I got Chloe through Nov into excellent A. All the owner kept saying was "Chloe wants her MACH!". Well Chloe needed contacts, to do the weaves on the first try, and to lose weight none of which the owner was willing to put effort into. Then she started telling us she was going to run her dog in FAST. Chloe does not belong in FAST. She doesn't have contacts... I don't care she can run her own dog, but when I told her FAST was a bad idea, and our trainer said the same thing, she then went to another friend and said "I don't care I am going to do it!" I decided ok then just run her period. Unfortunately the owner is severely overweight, and Chloe is FAST!!!! If we could get her Q'ing, she would have her MACH quickly. The points will rack up. Agility is so much fun! I just got a golden pup she will be my next agility dog. Ann |
