Aww FG. :( Sometimes you have to lose it to be heard. But it sounds like you're a wonderful advocate and you have good instincts.

Definitely keep an eye on the choking thing. Is she maybe swallowing blood? Or if her tongue is swollen, could that be blocking things some? Any chance of acid reflux? (I have that condition, and before I started getting treatment, I felt like I could not swallow all the way; it was very disconcerting.)

Would a patient advocate be any help with fielding the med students/student nurses/etc.? You're a better woman than me; if I'd overheard that "heart attack" comment I would have sh!t a brick right there in the hallway. I do not even have kids and that makes the momma bear come out in me. :censored:

Otherwise, nothing but hugs for all of you.

I love you guys... because not only do you send good luck and prayers but you always have great advice too. THANK YOU for the suggestions. I took them to heart, utilized them and made some progress! She's had her breathing and throat checked, and the pharmacy is trying to track down a liquid version of aspirin. Thank you ladies for the ideas, they were good ones!!

As I said hubby is in healthcare admin and he is amazing at his job... but he is like a deer in headlights right now. Him and Kena have always had a special bond and he is literally worried sick I think. He's also really exhausted, as I've had little breaks to check on Colton and feed him and such whereas he's pretty much been at the hospital almost 24/7 for 3 days now. So I'm trying to be the loud bossy take charge one for now until he has his wits about him again.

I will tell you.... we are lucky in that Kena will, I'm sure, make a full recovery. I know there are kids in that hospital that are there all the time, or much of the time, and parents who have to go through this on a regular basis. It breaks my heart. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have a chronically sick child. It really makes me thankful that, knock on wood, my two have been really healthy bar this episode.

Anyway thanks all. I'm home for a wee bit to nurse Colton and then I'm headed back. I'm reeeaaaalllly hoping she can come home before weekend but we'll see. Part of me wants her home NOW but part of me is a lil bit worried, too. Want her feeling better before I try to tackle her care on my own!

OK, you need to request the suppository. Just do it. It might be sort of *icky* in theory, but move on from that and get past the puking. That is the worst thing....and can have poor side effects (stomach acid in sore mouth) that you just want to avoid.

Definitely do what BH1 suggested - talk to the nursing supervisor about the choking complaint. Because, you might be labeled the biggest PITA parents *ever* but who cares? It's probably nothing, but you don't want to ignore *something*, even if it's just a comfort issue. These are professionals, they will get over your PITA-ness in a day or two.

Deep breaths. Big hugs. (Glass of wine isn't out of the question). Hopefully Kena will get some sleep and things will move forward a bit tomorrow. Hold your own with the med students.

Here's a funny story to make you laugh.....I had a [egads -- forget the technical name because I've mentally blocked all my infertility treatments]...procedure where they use dye contrast & ultrasound to visualize your uterus & fallopian tubes. Was given some meds to make me care less who was looking at my intimate parts and sticking god knows what where....and I swear....the doctor showed the med students a diagram of a uterus & fallopian tubes drawn with ballpoint pen on a napkin. OK, maybe it was a piece of scrap paper. Thank God I was doped up or I'd have had someone for lunch that day. I mean...come on! :brickwall: :brickwall: Oy.

Sending hugs your way....

The suppository!! Absolutely. I think it is the best option for actually getting the aspirin IN her. She's had a lot of diarrhea, and she's traumatized by people poking at her, so hubby was kind of eh about it but I think we may have to go that route. It is really important she gets the blood thinners.

TBF dontchya love all those GYN procedures.... ugh! That is JUST the time that you want students poking around.....

Flashy-the suppositories are the best way right now, and will help her heal quicker so hubby will just have to get over it.

And apparently the most accepted way in France (no I don't know why-and this is from an old articles so it's probably not currently acceptable either) to take medicines (I think I read it in Olivia de Havilland's book so you know how old that story is)-so she can get better and be sophisticated also. I think it's funny that people are so squeamish about suppositories now, and for years it was very common for medications. I guess there are fashions in everything.

I just hope she gets better quickly and can go home soon. Take care of yourself too.

The poor baby! The sores sound awful! I am hopeful that she keeps making good progress, and that you keep raising your voice if you need to. I swear, sometimes that is what it takes. :sigh:

Thursday morning ***JINGLES*** for Spicy Gordon. I hope things continue to improve for you guys today.

Sometimes you have to get them to see outside of the box. When I was incarcerated, I didn't eat for nearly three weeks, then they gave me the stuff in my ig tube for nutrition. From then on I had RAGING diarrhea and could not eat. After another week of uncontrolled diarrhea, I finally looked up at a doctor and asked if it was remotely possible that all of my gut flora was just gone from the antibiotics and illness. He said "yes" and I then asked if they could add acidophilous (or something like it!!) to my pill routine  They added it and within two days I was feeling MUCH better and my system started to regulate. They also insisted on me taking this nasty potassium supplement in liquid form that made me sick EVERY time I took it (stomach cramps, burning, vomitting). They kept telling me it couldn't be the potassium despite my complaints. Finally I told them I wouldn't take it anymore in that form so they gave me pills and VOILA...no more problem. I think honestly they sometimes can't see the forest for the trees.

Hang in there hon!!! Big hugs to you guys and lots of love for Spicy!

BH1 .... LMAO!!!! :)

Common sense isn't so common, eh?

Continuing to send good thoughts to you all! Tell Kena we're all thinking about her and wanting her to get better soon. (And hand hubby a pillow and a blanket and tell him to take a good long nap! It's impossible to function without sleep, poor guy!)

Thursday a.m. jingles for Spicy G and the FGs! :jingles: :jingles: :jingles:

Yes, suppositories are a good thing. I had to use them for anti-nausea meds when I couldn't keep anything down, and they weren't bad at all. They really aren't uncomfortable and dissolve quickly. I sure do hope today is a better day for all of you.

More :jingles: :jingles: :jingles: :jingles: for Kena and    for the Flashy family.

I totally agree with everyone on the suppositories. It's an icky concept, but it totally works for when you can't get meds down orally. When I was younger I used to get horrific menstrual cramps, to the point that I spent most the day puking. I couldn't keep down any drugs that I'd take to stop things so the doc finally prescribed me suppositories and they worked like magic.
