We're moving in mid-November. We have our apartment through November and we are having some work done on the house before we move in (floors refinished & gas line run into the kitchen). But we'll be home by Thanksgiving. Here are some pics: This is the front. The square hedge at the far right might have to find a new home at some point because it blocks a lot of light from the downstairs bedroom. It's a lovely hedge, just not there. This is the kitchen. We're having hardwoods installed for the floor in place of the sad looking linoleum. Counters will go eventually, they're a weird purply color. I'm not a fan of the cabinets either but I don't know what I want to do to them yet. They'll at least get handles. But they're HUGE. And I can fit dinner plates in all of them! The best part - Riley's yard, with a big squirrel tree to the right. And my beautiful azalea bush (I can't wait for it to bloom!). Between the yard and the house is a cement patio perfect for Mr. Indy to grill on. It'll be a project to pretty up the patio but once we do it it's going to be awesome. |

Congrats Riley and Indys too That's so exciting!!! It looks great! Huge yard and lovely trees. The kitchen cupboards would look awesome painted with big white knobs on them! Great that they are so large. I love hardwood in the kitchen too. Nice that you have such a long move in time so you can get the flooring all done ahead of time. That's what we did when we moved here but now it needs to be done again (22 years, 3 dogs and 2 kids later....) What colour are you doing the hardwood? Really happy for you guys

I love it Indy!!! It looks very spacious and clean and nicely kept. You guys will love making it your own and building memories there. We had our tile professionally epoxyed (is that a word??). The color wasn't bad (nice neutral taupe) but it had worn along the bottom and it was cheaper than replacing the existing tile. We also had the old sinks sprayed (same story). it's been ten years since we did it and the tile looks fab even after re-caulking BUT I would not rec. doing the sinks. I think they get too much wear and traffic and we just replaced ours this past spring. They looked really bad when the epoxy started to peel here and there. They always looked dirty. Anyway, for what it's worth from one homeowner to ANOTHER!!! |

How did I miss this? Congrats you two, and to Riley as well!! Welcome to the homeownership club! You'll have to adjust to the weight of the world on your shoulders as you've dipped your toes into the real estate market in the Washington DC 'burbs... Ain't it grand!! |

Thanks everyone We're really excited. We spent some time wandering around the house yesterday trying to figure out what we need first for furniture (be prepared for future threads on furniture advice). We brought Riley with us and he had a blast. Though he was a very.bad.boy after a tour of the house, he went into the downstairs bedroom and started to poop...I think he might not have realized it was a house since there was no furniture. He has never done that before. I caught him in the act and dragged him outside before he could do much damage but still..very.bad.dog. He loves his yard and ran around like wild man. We have two toy poodle-type dogs next door that he met. One was wearing a cone of shame and wasn't interested in saying hi but the other, a little boy dog, was very vocal upon greeting his new neighbor. Riley was good though and after an initial growl and back-hair poofing, he settled in and tried to get the barky little dog to run the fenceline with him. Barky wasn't interested in doing anything other than barking, but maybe they can be friends at some point. I was just happy there was no real aggression on Riley's part since he can be a moron...and the fence keeps him from humping anyone. He generally gets along with little dogs so his new neighbors are a good fit into his life. |

We've finally officially moved into our yard & house Our first night home was Wednesday night. We're only living in the lower level yet because the contractor is still futzing around upstairs so it's dusty and we don't want to move things in up there until he's finished....which should be Wednesday...in theory. Plus really all the furniture we currently own, except for the beds, is staying downstairs so until we buy more stuff upstairs will be pretty sparse. I'm just looking forward to having a functioning kitchen! Yesterday's fun discovery was that the pilot light in the water heater had gone out at some point so we didn't have hot water...I found that out when trying to shower and get cleaned up for turkey day dinner. That was an unpleasant shower! But the light is lit now and we have hot water so all is well. We made our first Home Depot trip today for paint and other sundries. I'm pretty sure all I want for Christmas is Home Depot gift cards. We have to go back later today for the first of the new toilets. The pink one doesn't function too well so it's the first to go - and by replacing it we'll gain a whole 4" of space in the tiny master bathroom, which is freaking fantastic. The teal/wood toilet works fine so it stays for while, as does the downstairs mauve one. But one day soon, I'll have toilets that aren't weird looking! Riley still loves his yard. He's still far too busy marking his territory to actually chill and play outside but hopefully he'll figure that out soon. As much as he loves to play indoor fetch he has absolutely no interest in it outside. Weirdo. I did discover yesterday that our other neighbor has an indoor/outdoor cat (a gorgeous big orange tiger kitty! ) that roams their backyard so that could be an interesting encounter. Riley is good with kitties indoors so I hope that will carry over to kitties on the other side of the fence. All this one has to do is hiss at the dog and he'll be scared, so there is at least that. Once we get settled I'll post before & after pictures of things. |

Congratulations! It looks wonderful. To easily relight the pilot get a couple of the bic candlelighters at the store the next time you go-they're usually right in the checkout aisle. |

Yay Indy!! Just in time for the holidays. I'm glad Riley is enjoying the yard! It looked lovely. It is amazing how fun Home Depot and Lowes can be once you own a home.... I can spend hours in those places getting all kinds of ideas and dropping loads of cash!! Definitely post pics as you get settled in! |

Thanks! Yup, fortunately we got one of those candle lighters earlier this week as an impulse buy in the checkout lane at Target. Good thing or we'd have been really screwed last night. The bathrooms are very colorful....I'm just ignoring the colors until we can redo them completely. It's hard to match those shades of vivid. Of course, the pink toilet's bolts have corroded so thoroughly that they're not coming out without a fight. That fight has been postponed until tomorrow....hopefully Mr. Indy will be victorious. |
