Mr. I and I decided it was high time Riley had his own fenced in yard so we went yard shopping and found one that comes with a pretty house for the humans too! We close on the 22nd, so baring anything catastrophic happening all things are go.

The yard has a bunch of shady big trees and squirrels (this was Riley's biggest request, that there be squirrels). Plus it has a nice patio for his humans to hang out on and do human things like throw his ball and grill.

And as excited as Riley is about his yard, I'm excited about our house. It's a brick & siding split-foyer (sort of a split level but not really), 4 BR, 2 1/2 bath with a walk-out lower level. The house is older but in fantastic shape, the woman that owns it has owned the house it's entire life. She's in her 90s now. Everything is older but nothing so tragically old that it isn't functioning anymore. The kitchen needs updating (hence my stove thread) and the upstairs bathrooms need help to not be so vividly colored. I swear that 2/3rds of the houses we went into had a pink bathroom and our master bath is one of the pinkest bathrooms that ever pinked. Pink toilet, pink shower stall, multi-pink floor tiles, pink wall tiles, pink ceramic cup holder & soap dish. And it's super tiny so the pink just explodes.

We're having the floors refinished (or whatever it is that they do to scuffy looking hardwoods) and gas run into the kitchen so I can get a pretty gas stove before we move in. Our apartment lease isn't up until December so we will make a slow move but probably do the bulk of it before Thanksgiving.

Yay! You will be so happy that at 11:00 p.m. you can just open the back door and let Riley out, rather than suiting up for the final pee/poop walk of the evening. And not a moment too soon with winter coming!! Poor squirrels who currently frequent that back yard have no idea what's in store for them.

As for pink bathrooms, our master bath was like that. The house was built in 1940 and it was all the original tile. Mauve subway tile on the walls with dark pink almost cranberry) tile trim. Mauve/dark pink mosaic floor tile, and foil wallpaper with a wavy silver/pink pattern. It was like a really bad acid trip! We got rid of the wallpaper ASAP, but it was 4 years before we could redo that bathroom (remodeling the original kitchen had to happen first).

They do make paint (I think epoxy) that can paint over ceramic tiles. I don't know if it's slippery or not, but they could come in and spray the entire floor, shower stall and wall tile in one day, and there might be a substance they put in the shower stall and floor paint to make it non slip. With new wall paint (if needed) you could totally redo it for not a lot of money. And you could try a paint color that is a strong possibility for the future tile color to let you live with it and see if you want that shade or something different. When you redo the bath floor check out "Linen Tile", I've seen it on a bunch of remodel shows and it looks very nice.

Congrtulations on the house!!

We're officially home owners!! We closed this morning and it's all ours!

I need to upload pictures. I'm so excited. I can't wait to go over there this weekend and walk around and dream up what we're going to do with it. Plus I really want to let Riley run around his yard.

Hooray!! Homeownership is great. Just knowing you have your own personal space, to do whatever you want to... there is nothing like it!

Definitely post pics, and enjoy!!
