How many days/weeks of paid vacation do you get each year and how many years have you been in your job?

How many vacation days would you expect if you'd been in your current job for 10 years and were an officer of the corporation? I'm curious because I'm debating asking for more vacation time but don't want to appear unreasonable.

I get 1 day a pay period (we get paid 2x/month) and can accrue up to 24 days at a time. I just started my 7th year there but for us this rate of vacation starts the first day you begin work. We also get every government holiday and the week between Christmas & New Years. I'm very lucky, I know. Of course, the pay sucks and we haven't gotten raises in 2 years now but the benefits are great...

I get 10 vacation days, plus 2 personal days, and 5 sick days oh and yes we can take our sick days without being "sick". After five years we get another 5 days. I would think after being at a company for 10 years you would be looking at at least 3 weeks of vacation, but every company is different. I can't hurt to ask all they can say is no.

We get PTO (paid time off) which can be used for any purpose. For every 2 week pay period I think I earn 11 hours of PTO (close enough). After 5 years it goes up, and again at 10. There's a cap at 20, maybe 30 years. The longest period of time off we can get is 14 days off, but managers can do what they want (a coworker is in Ireland now for 4 weeks).
Management (not hourly) gets 3 weeks off each year for vacation, but most take a week and a half away at the most (maybe 2).
Since I work in a 24/7 clinical department, we have to work holidays and weekends ( I don't do any "full" weekends, long story...).

We get 8 hours every other pay period (paid every other week). We can accrue as much as we want (currently have 170 hours or so). When we leave we can cash those hours out too. We also get sick time and petty leave time and something else.

if it's just vacation for 10 yrs service and an officer of the corp, I'd say typical is 20 days. Typically starting with 2 weeks, then bumping to 15 days after 3 or 5 yrs. I'm in HR and this is what we'd typically see.

I personally get 17 days, have been with the firm for 7 yrs.

I have been at my job full time for 8 years. I get 3 weeks paid vacation, plus 4 personal days (single days off scheduled ahead of time for any reason), plus 6 sick days ( single days off unscheduled).
Since I've been there 8 years, I get my time frontloaded, meaning I get all my hours (about 140 or so), on Jan. 1st. After that I accrue about 4 hours per two week pay period.
It's not a lot of paid time off, but because I work three 12 hour shifts, a little creative scheduling, ie use of single days off and switching shifts with coworkers, can work you into a ton of long stretches off.
Being in healthcare, I am obligated to work every other weekend and every other major holiday.

It's interesting to read here what other people get for time off.

Ive been at my job for 5 years. I get two weeks paid vacation, 5 days sick leave, and if I need to just take a day off and dont want to use my time, its ok.

I do NOT go to lunch or take any breaks and I work from 7:00am- 5:00pm. I also work most holidays except the major ones like Christmas.

I've been here 15 years last month. We get our vacation time "re-loaded" for the year on our anniversary. I get 25 days paid, but it's actually PTO time for any reason - it includes sick days, vacation days, personal days, whatever the reason I need to take time off. This is the first year we don't get "paid" sick days but they are rolled into our PTO time, so if we're sick, there goes a vacation day. After using 5 PTO days for illness, it goes into short-term disability if we have a doctor's note.

That being said, the only years where I actually used all my PTO was if I had major surgery (last year) or had a baby. Otherwise I'm rarely gone more than a couple full weeks at separate points during the year, plus single or double days off for other things that come up like long weekends or kids sick, etc.

I've been at my job for 2.5 years, get 15 vacation days and sick/personal days are discretionary, based on an honours system kind of. I haven't taken a sick day since I started the job, since I can work from home and would just work from my bed/couch unless SUPER ill. But, if we're going through a tough time and need a few days to revamp, we can take that time off no questions asked and it doesn't count towards our vacation days.

I think we go up to 4 weeks vacation at 10 years, 5 weeks at 20 years.

This is interesting to see what people get!

I'm going to ask for another week-- I currently have 3 weeks vacation and 4 personal days. Company policy is 2 weeks to start, 3 weeks after 3 years. Since I've been here over 10 years, plus I've taken on a whole additional job in the last couple of years (after layoffs) and have not gotten a raise, I'm feeling like it's not too much to ask. I did get a "promotion" a couple years ago but it was in title only, no raise.

I normally take a week at a time once a year and split the rest up with a day here and there-- typically use the days for horse related stuff like vet/farrier appointments, etc. Honestly, we're so short staffed that it's difficult to take a week at a time right now.

Barn Girl, is there nothing in your company's policy for employees receiving additional vacation time after 3 years?

I have been here 10 years (next week :cheer: ). While not an officer of the company (we're owned by a Japanese conglomerate so that ain't happenin' ;) ) I am a senior Director in our group. Our Corporate policy is accrue hours incrementally based on length of service; this year I have accrued my 18 days; we also receive 3 floating holidays, plus a shut-down between Christmas & New Year's (common in our industry). As a bonus for sticking around for10 years, you are awarded 5 bonus days at your service anniversary (or you can take the cash equivalent). Sick time is on the honor system, much like JTM states.

I think your plan is a reasonable one; to me vacation time is a "freebie" that doesn't affect the company a lot in terms of actual cost.

I've been at my company almost 11 years. I get 7.333 hours of PTO per pay period, so about 22 days a year. We can accrue 200 hours total and if you go over, you stop accrueing. We also get anywhere from 7-12 paid holidays based on industry standards.

Last year, when I hit the ten year mark, I was suppose to bump up to 9.333 hours. Wouldn't you know that's when they decided to revised the PTO policy so I've stayed at the 7.333. :teehee: and :pissed:

They also put the PTO accrual cap on at that same time. That bums me out because I like having a ton of PTO available for emergency use. For example, when I broke my arm, I had 360 hours available and was out of work for 4 months. I only took a portion of the PTO and saw still able to come back to 160 hours. With the cap, I have to be paid out quite often so I don't miss out on accrueing.

I would think if your a corporate officer, you should be getting at least 4 weeks a year.

I am pretty much the same as others...2 weeks accrued for the first 4 years. On year 5, it turns to 3 weeks a year. We get three floating holidays that can be used whenever (sick days, mental health days). They do not carry over, but vacation does. Vacation starts accruing from your first day with the company which is nice!

We had so many holidays when I first started here...Gosh, I felt like a bank employee; but as the company has grown, that has been cut way down.

Our executive team probably gets whatever they want. I know they get unlimited use of the company's jets and pilots (with their families). They can fly to New York for a Broadway show and be back a few hours later. I know one went to Maui for the weekend!)I can't imagine they ever get away for more than a few hours though...we have so much going on all the time!

15 days annually, plus 3 personal days. We don't have "sick" days per se unless you're taking an extended number of days... I think I've taken 2 real sick days in the three years I've worked here... I work from my couch if I'm out!

I think it gets bumped to 4 weeks after EIGHT years of service. However, due to the group I work for I have a ton of flexibility for which hours I work, and working from home. I'll take that over having to commute every single day, be at my desk 9-5 sharp and getting 4 weeks vacation.
