I have to go to the doc tomorrow and get proceeded upon. (have a friend booked to do the literal hand holding) The thought of instruments going into places where they have heretofore never been is absolutely terrifying me, and I am hoping that a little bit of "bitch please, wait til you see the things they stick up there if/when you have a baby" would calm me down. I also made the mistake of watching a video of it being performed and that was just a terrible idea.

Having the Dr doing any kind of procedure "down there" just sucks. It's painful and embarrasing. I hate going to the Gyno.

I'm used to tolerating the spreader, but they have to go putting things into the actual uterus tomorrow, and as someone who has never had babies, it's completely uncharted territory. For all I know they find a growth that looks like elvis and the entire time I am screaming and convinced they accidentally got my lungs with that pinching thing... |

Take 4 Aleve when you go if they did not already give you something perscription. Have someone that can drive you home. Where comfy granny panties. Just remind yourself that it will only take just a second of pain and you will be on your way. Good luck! Edited by OpticalIllusion, Sep 27 2010, 07:32 AM.

My thoughts exactly. I know that sometimes gyn's will do uterine biopsies without having patients take any meds because it's "really quick". They are quick, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take anything! Advil or Aleve will be helpful, no matter what the procedure is, and having someone to drive you is a good idea. ![]()

Oh Grace, I will be there holding your hand in spirit. I *hate* the gyno and particularly hate going when it's something more than normal. If they get after you to spread wider, tell them what I always do: But I ride horses, I'm used to squeezing my thighs as tight as possible. |

Just reading all of this fabulous advice from your TOC friends makes me realize what a useful bunch we are sort of. ok, not so much.Hope it's over and you can have

Blah. Not fun, but it will be quick and you will be glad its over. I've gotten to get lots of things done and Its no fun but not horrible either. And after my best friend going through all sorts if tests and proceedures with 4 ivf cycles I no longer feel the right to complain about any of it too much though I had to do them and She made the decision to. If you weren't given anything to take and you aren't under specific instructions eat something bland an hour or two before to prevent getting lightheaded, take 4 advil 30 minutes before you go, and take a pad with you for after or ask for one before you dress. They should give you one but sumetimes will forget - just remind them. And take you mp3 player and headphones if that would help you zone out a little. In my experience I only have had cramping but nothing 'painful'. When they dilate your cervix tell them if its uncomfortable. No reason for that to be bad and They either need to numb you more or just go a little slower. |

Ugh grace I feel for you girl. Anything OB/GYN related stinks, in my opinion!! Agree with those about the pain meds. And don't be afraid to ask your doc for something if you are uncomfortable. Hugs to you!! |
