Just curious - anyone ever had phone service through your internet? My ma had Vonnage (liked it) before she went to only mobile phone. Info would be appreciated. Thanks. I assume without power to the modem you could not make calls... |

BH-if the power goes off, or if your cable modem fails you have no phone service. I used to have digital phone through Time Warner and I liked it usually, but you have to have good cell service or when you need to call the phone provider or electric company you are SOL. I know someone who had vonage and liked it. |

My SIL had Magic Jack for a while (she might still, I don't know) and it worked pretty darned well. Sometimes the connection was a little fuzzy but for what it was and the cost it seemed to be pretty decent. And it was great for her because her dad bought her a years worth of service for Christmas so she had a free phone for an entire year (granted since my MIL pays her bills she has free everything anyways but that's a topic for another day...). But like Jan said, no modem/power = no phone. And for me where I live, where power goes out every time Gd sneezes, I'd never have a functioning phone. |

I have a Magic Jack. It works well, especially for the price. I don't mind the whole power out/no phone deal. I still have my cell phone for those situations. Magic Jack lets me keep my minute plan on the cell lower, so that's the bonus. |
