Hello! I have a question regarding my field boots. They are new, and when I purchased them they were very snug. That was two years ago and they have not been worn in that timeframe. Well, I go to try them on again and they are ok without breeches, but way too tight with breeches. I have already had them stretched and they have been stored with boot trees. The boots have zippers. My question is this - has anyone has gussets or elastics put in their zip-up boots? I'm thinking of taking them to the cobbler to see if he can put some elastic next to the zippers (the whole length of the boot). The boots are uncomfortable from the top to about half way down the calf. Any feedback from those who have had alterations to their boots would be appreciated. Thanks!

When my customs got too small, they put a different zipper in that was a little bit wider, and it gave me about another 1/3 of an inch. I had Chuck do mine, but it was years ago. Not sure if he is still doing it. Journeyman probably could.

Ditto OI's experience, and that would be the route I'd go again if I needed to.

I've also seen cobblers add an elastic gusset but not the length of the zipper - just 1.5" vertically - like a dart.

Thanks! I did not think of a wider zipper - that's a good idea.
