Jersey Fresh, do those boots have an elastic gussett? They only go up to a 16" in XXL (sucks) and it's right at 16", which is my bare leg measurement so I need some give...quite a lot But the other measurements look fine, top of calf and height. Let me know, and if they do, does it have a good amount of give or is it very tight?

alright ladies, what do we think of these boots? I am worried that they are going to be actually too wide, or at least too wide at the top of the calf, but maybe they would work...the height is not great but how much do they drop? thoughts? (and if they are genuine, please don't bid against me...come on people I need boots! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110538895002&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 Edited by MayaTy02, May 27 2010, 07:18 PM.

I would be worried that they would stretch out too much. Ideal fit calf fit would cause a bit of calf throbbing for the first few wears, then be perfect. Since the calf might be bigger on you, they might drop more than usual... They are pretty cheap and would probably get you through the next year. Then you could use them as schooling boots. thanks, I asked for all kinds of measurements so we'll see...my biggest concern would be the height. I tried on the Devon Aire boots again fully dressed in breeches and socks and I think they fit ok heightwise NOW, but of course will drop. They are 18 7/8 so 19 will not be much higher. I really want 19.5 at least. I could also fit my entire hand down the side to mid calf...that can't be good ARGH. The Ovations should be coming soon but maybe if the measurements look ok on these, I may try them (assuming they go for cheap enough).

If I'm reading the description correctly, the Vogel's only have a cuff lining? If so, then I think they would stretch out and drop a fair amount. You could call Vogel and ask them how much a boot with that type of lining is expected to drop, since they account for that when they measure someone. But even if they do drop more than you'd like, these are dirt cheap and you could start wearing a thicker sock to help keep them up. |

Maya, when JTM lost a bunch of weight we took her boots in to a great boot guy in Toronto and he cut them down to fit her and put in gussets. Cost us $100 and was so worth it, they were like a custom fit after that. Just a thought. Good luck! |

I went custom when I needed a tall wide calf boot. My Dehners were 21" tall before drop. There were also 17" in the calf. They are now my "fat" boots (and sadly, I'm fat right now ). I have old style Ariat Crowne Pros in wide that are my "skinny" boots. The calf is just fine at 15 3/4" but they really could be an inch to inch and a half taller. I definitely feel for you. That you find something to work.

Sorry. I called Dehner about having them taken in and they were like 'it's always good to have two pairs of boots" etc. I'd rather just stay skinny and have just one pair of boots. (They aren't an 8, but they are an 8.5). |

MT-Yes they do. What is your calf measurement without breeches/socks? Because you could try them on a bareleg and slowly zip up and walk around to let them stretch. I think even though they are fully lined, the leather is soft and stretches nicely with a few wearings and mine are actually a bit wide now. I can take a photo of the gussets if you want =) Snackpack-Thats what I think I will need. Mine are 19" and a bit short, so I think in a few years I'm going custom with 20 or 21" height and spanish tops! |

That would be great, because I can't tell by the pics and I will have to order them online I am a 16 bareleg in the morning so if I could just get them to zip up I'd be happy and then I'll just wear them or have them stretched.I think I've got an abnormally shapely leg because when the wide calf boots fit my calf, they are huge at the top and ankle, and I have tiny ankles and apparently not that big of a top of my calf. It so looks like custom for me, but I don't even have a horse so I really can't justify it. ARGH

Did you ever try the Grand Prix's? The leather is baby calf (not like the cheaper boots you are looking at which have the waxy leather) and stretch A LOT. And yes, the foot bed runs small. |

Hi ladies, back again with more questions, observations So I got the Ovation Gold Pros today and actually I REALLY like them. The leather is nice and soft and it's a good looking boot. The right one fit, but was basically skin tight at 16.5 with no elastic. I couldn't get the left on, though truth be told I am sure I could have, but didn't want to break the zipper and am not committed to buying them. I'm sure I could have them stretched a tiny bit too. Problem is: I don't like that there's no elastic. They *just* fit and I am so worried I'd bust the zipper. Can I have them stretched a tiny bit, like .25 inch? or will they stretch that much just from wearing them around the house? I can get the left one on bare leg, so if I commit to buying these, i can certainly wear them around for days in the house (so comfy in 90 degree weather ). Here's the other rub though, i still think they are too short and I'm surprised. Where should they hit you on the leg before drop? These fit perfectly without dropping, i think. I can easily bend my leg and not hit the boot with the back of my knee. These are supposedly 19 1/8 high which is almost 1.5 inches higher than the Mountain Horse ones i tried and like, but somehow they still seem too short. I can go up to a 9 because the 8 XXW foot was a little small, but I'd be worred then that the 9 would be too wide at 17"...so I need advice. Here are the 8 and 9 measurements - I have the 8 XXW and the foot is a tiny bit tight and they may be a smidge too short. So help me decide if I go up to a 9 and which: 8 XXW (this is what I have) Calf 16 1/2 Height: 19 1/8 9 XW Calf 16 Height 19 3/8 9 XXW Calf 17 Height 19 3/8 So obviously the 9 XW is going to be too small, probably won't even be able to get them on bare leg since no elastic, but perhaps I can have them stretched? I'm worried that the 9 XXW is going to likely be a hair too big most notably at the top of the calf where the 8 XXW is already a touch roomy, and if they stretch even more, then they may end up dropping more than I want. I do like that these boots fit me in the ankle, they're very tapered, and the top of the calf, they look nice and flattering, which I do like. SO...help!!!
