hi all, so I was informed that there is a show in a month that my trainer would like me to attend, will be the first since the 1987 AHSA Medal Finals (SCARY). For the life of me, I cannot find field boots that fit and realllllyyyy don't want to go custom (nor will I have them in time). I feel like I've tried everything out there, but if the calf fits, they are too short (Mountain Horse Richmonds), or the height is great but they won't zip (Tredstones). Ariats don't even come close according to the measurement chart. I have a 16 in bare leg calf so need at least 16.5 preferably more. Height needs to be at least 19", preferably a little higher. Foot size is 8, though I can go up to an 8.5 comfortably. I thought I found the perfect boot (Devon Aire), from a measurement perspective, but the size I wanted is sold out. ARRGGH SO, any other ideas? I've tried the Ovations, no go, Dublins horribly stiff. At this point I'll spend up to $500 to get something that I like, but still not finding anything. I thought I could get semi customs from Fabbri but the guy who I was in touch with basically stopped talking to me when he saw he'd have to order my size.

also, will there be any boot vendors at Upperville that I can check out? Obviously ordering custom doesn't help me for a June 27th show but I have a pair that i can borrow that are too short, but not horrible. HELP!

They may be out of your price range, but try Beval's. They have a lot of nice semi-custom options.

ETA: The Arena is in your price range. Call Beval's and tell them your measurements. They were so helpful to me. I had them ship 2 possibilities, and just shipped back the one pair that didn't fit and kept the others.

I second the Bevals. I have the Puissance boots and they fit my wide but very tall calves.

OI, I have a really small foot for mens sizes, and the calf heights/widths for the foot size seem to be no better.

On the Bevals sizing chart, the arenas even in XW are less than 16" and the height is less than 18" so that would again be too narrow and too short :( Is it worth calling them? I see that the Puissance would be good in height but the calf is still too tight, unless it's got a whole heck of alot of stretch to them...and $850 is really not ideal :o

How about the Ovations?

http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=7864&cm_mmc=Shopping.com-_-Shopping%20Feed-_-NA-_-17864

xxw in 8 or 8.5 is 16.5" calf and 19 1/8" height.

I've found Ovation products are normally pretty decent for as inexpensive as they are, plus if you get 'em from Smartpak there is no hassle over returning them if they don't fit. If you order, don't forget to look on TOB for a free shipping code (I NEVER pay for shipping anymore when I order from them! ;) )

Is the show a local or rated show? If local you could maybe get away with some nice black half chaps...

oh it's very local...it's an "adults only" schooling show designed specifically for "rusty" riders...which of course is doubly funny because the horse I will be riding is named Rusty. :) I don't have black paddocks or half chaps and I'm kinda fussy about turn out, I don't think I'd feel right about showing in half chaps :(

on the Ovations...I tried a pair on that didn't fit, however i think they may have just been the XW...not sure if they had an XXW. I may have to order a pair and see how they are....

ok so I have ordered a pair of the Ovations....and have a size of the Devon Aires coming (which I think will be too short). So if neither of these work, please keep the suggestions coming!

Good luck with the Ovations! You probably know this, but try them on first thing in the morning rather than the afternoon, in case your calves are the type to swell over the course of the day (mine are).

And good luck with the show!!!

yes they most certainly do :) (darn pregnancy, I swear I retain alot more water now). And Sidesadderider has advised me that I should walk in her pool with my boots, then let them dry on all day - so sweet of her to volunteer her pool! ;)

I am a wee bit nervous!

What is it specifically you wanted vis-a-vis Devon Aires? Because I have a pair of 8.5 wide used for sale. I would send them to you to borrow if you wanted, or sell them.

If you find a pair that you can get on but are a bit too tight to be comfortable, soak the insides with rubbing alcohol (a spray bottle works well) and then wear them for a few hours. That'll help stretch things out a bit. I did that with my field boots and it took them from painfully, leg-cramping tight to very wearable after a week of alcoholing them.

V, do you know the measurements? The Devon Aire Cambridge seemed to have measurements that would work ok for me, although I wanted to size up to a 9 to get a taller boot, but they only have an 8, I'm worried at 18 7/8 that it's just going to be too short for me. Let me know what your boots measurements are!

Here are the measurements...

Measurements: Sole length- just under 11 inches long, height outside- just under 19 inches, calf at the widest-16.5 inches, ankle at narrowest-13 inches

Keep in mind these are worn/broken in so have already fallen and shouldn't fall more. They've pretty much already fallen as much as they will and they are just a smidge under 19 inches tall on the outside.
