What insurance do you carry to protect yourself at shows? (E.g. your horse gets loose and tramples someone?) I went to my equine insurer's website but not sure what product actually covers me for liability away from home?

Best bet is to call your ins. agent and ask, since it seems to vary from company to company. The other thing to know is that USEF offers members *secondary* coverage (i.e., stands behind your principal insurance) which covers them at shows. |

Definitely call your insurance company. Mine (State Farm, for my homeowner's policy) told me that the coverage followed me and my horse wherever we went as long as my horse was a pet (i.e. not used for any commercial purpose, including leasing or half leasing). My agent called the national office to confirm. One of the specific scenarios I gave was "What if my horse gets loose at a show grounds, or gets off the boarding barn property outside my presence, and hurts someone?" The national office said this would be the same situation as if I had a dog that got out of my yard and bit someone without me being present. The coverage would still be applicable unless they could prove gross negligence on my part. |

Thanks guys. Then probably my homeowners + our umbrella policy already covers us. I just didn't know if there was some special product that everyone bought "just in case." I will ask my dh when he gets home; he's the insurance guru as he represents two property/casualty groups so he probably already knew the answer. |

I carry separate liability insurance on my horses. The homeowners ins is sticky and may or may not be enough. |
