I just love you have a Mr. Fishy who likes to ride!
.....and is cute as a button and super sweet too  Mr Fishy is one heck of the total package :cloud9:

Fishy are you eventer types alowed to use ear plugs for stadium? I have found them to really help with relaxation. Not for cross or dressage but just wondering about the stadium part. Might be worth a try for a few rides just to see.

They look really awesome together, I just love the dressage shot. Hopefully he will be able to readjust the warm up so that they don't peak there instead of the show ring. I was wondering if a quieter warm up would keep him more settled for dressage but you know the boys better than me.

So, ya, how did they finish up placings wise??????

Hello again!

Well to address some of your questions, Blacky Tacky, I do believe it is *mostly* Mr. Fishy who gets nervous, because he has been at other venues where he's had great dressage rides. One of which was amazing - a horse was being VERY VERY naughty in the warmup and ended up dumping its rider. This was just when Mr. Fishy was going in for his ride-outside-the-court-before-your-test. The horse ran from the warmup area right up Tomato's butt as he was near the judge's stand. It was a blustery day - probably 60 mph winds and to make matters worse, one of the vendor's tents up and blew away! Tomato took all that in stride and did very well in that test, even after having a 20-minute delay while the horse was caught and the paramedics came for the rider.

I think part of the problem at this place is that dressage is on grass and the BN riders go first so it is slippery. We've talked of putting studs in but Tomato has such wonky conformation and twists so much that we thought that might not be a good idea. He only shows here once a year.

In stadium, Mr. Fishy is learning how to RIDE. You know how you can ride but kind of be a passenger? That's how he's been at shows (he does RIDE in his lessons but there's obviously more tries and more time to deconstruct the course) before because there's just not a lot of time to think while you're out on course (which is why he thinks he does so well in XC - 'cause there's a lot of time for him to think between the fences). I mean, he's been riding, but now he's learning how to be in charge and THINK while he's out on course. So the first half of the course was speedy, but then he did some big whoas and got him back nicely.

I guess it is like any other skill. You can only think of so many things at a time and once you master one thing then you can focus on another . . . he's always been worried about forgetting his courses so that was probably his first focus.

How's that for making excuses?! :teehee:

Oh, and they were tied at the end of the show. Since the other person finished on their dressage score, they got the 4th place ribbon and Mr. Fishy got the 5th.

We rode at home the other day and I decided to jump for the first time in, oh, six months or so? I only jumped one time since my knee surgery last year so really I haven't jumped in about a year. And last time it was such a disaster that I swore off jumping Paddy forever. Perhaps it is all the dressage work we've been doing, but Paddy was so fabulous! Soft like butter, easy off the ground, good form, quiet landing. <3 :cloud9: We did a fun exercise and made a big X where the jump cups were up a lot higher than usual. Tomato can JUMP! The middle of the jump isn't so high but the big X gives the impression of a larger jump and boy howdy did the Tomato (and Mr. Fishy) look good!
