So I have made the brave decision to take Tigger to a dressage show this summer. Yeah I am nervous already and it is still 3 months away, but time flies when you are having fun -- or something. Anyway... I need the correct outfit for showing which means a pair of either field or dress boots. My coach would prefer that we have dress boots btw. I tried a wide calf boot on the other night and while the foot fits perfectly, I could not get the zipper up over my now ginormous calf. I tried two different styles and no luck. Zipper will go up part way but not around the widest part of my calf. My question is am I stuck having to get a pair of customs or semi customs, or should I try a man's boot? What has everyone's experience been with different labels? I don't really want to shell out a lot of cash for what could be a pair of boots that I will only wear once or twice, but at the same time, I want to make sure I have something that fits and looks good too! |

You've got three months. Find something on eBay and get them fitted by a cobler! Men's boots may be an option too...! Just ask for detailed measurements before purchasing. I bought a pair of brand new, old stock Ariat Medallists (the old Italian made ones) for $100 several years ago. They're dress-boot style, but not stiff like a dressage boot... |

welcome to my world LD. I have been trying to find boots for my "athletic" calf for a few weeks now. I have done tons of looking on the web at different boots and their measurements and have tried on tons. As of right now I have not found the perfect fit, but getting some ideas at least. You may need to size up the foot. I wear an 8 but will try a boot of up to a 9 since the bigger the foot, the bigger the other measurements and I'm tall so i can get away with it. Mountain Horse makes a field boot, the Richmond, which runs wide but short. Ariats will not fit me ever, so i don't even bother. Treadstone makes an extra wide calf but they still don't work for me. I am probably going to end up trying the Devon Aire Cambridge field boot which is cheap ($179) and I'm sure not great quality leather but the measurements seem like they will work for me. I am also thinking of getting a pair of plain ol field boots and taking them to the boot guy and putting in a zipper which will hopefully deal with the width. Let me tell you it is NOT fun to try to find boots that fit. Good luck though you have plenty of time. Take your measurements and then call around or look online at all the measurements of the boots you're interested in, then try the ones that seem like they will fit.

I might be interested! What brand, and how wide/tall are they? (My calves are weird... somewhere between slim and wide, depending on the brand )

Could we possibly have your foot size, calf measurement, and height measurement? Carrying on this convo without them is like trying to recommend a pair of jeans with a woman who won't show you the view from behind. ![]() |

LD I am an 8 too so depending on your calf size, I may be able to help with what brands to try. I did find alot of options on ebay, just nothing that was quite right. I was not looking for a dress boot though and I do think there were some options there in an 8 dress boot with wider calf. I couldnt do the mens, they don't look any wider according to the measurments in a boot small enough to fit my feet. |

Take a serious look at Nittany boots. I can get an extra tall (21") extra wide calf (18 1/2") in the $250-$300 ballpark. |
