Hi all, so I finally got THE coat that i thought would fit her, it's a Wellington in size 8 "full". The coat she wore at her last show, which as you recall I hated, is a 12 Devon aire that was the only thing that fit her belly but was wayyyyy too long and bunched up in the chest when in the saddle. I attached that pic again for comparison. The other pics are her in the new coat. I am not sure what i think of it. The length definitely seems better, sleeve length is fine, overall length seems good, fits the waist, but I feel like it's baggy in the back. What do you guys think?

I did find a coat that I think fits her pretty much perfectly but I didn't buy it because I knew this was coming in the mail today. I guess I just want your impressions. The other coat is a regular size 10 but seemed to run short and fit her in the belly. Both coats are the same price, however the 10 would probably need to hem the sleeves, but the rest of it is absolutely perfect - if a tiny bit tight in the belly.

I know I'm overanalyzing, but I need opinions!

I also have a hunch that when she sits on the pony, the back is going to bunch up like the other one. In that first picture of the old coat it looks pretty OK to me, but I recall once she was riding it bunched up a lot. Based on how roomy the new coat looks to be through the back, I'm guessing that you'll have the same problem with it. Maybe have her straddle a chair and see what happens when she's sitting?

Edited to ask -- Do the arms look a little baggy as well? They look very roomy to me.

I'd say send it back and go with the 10 that you just found. You can always move the buttons a tad to give her more room in the waist if she needs it. That seems like an easier fix than trying to take in the back on this one.

can you tell I really want to be done with this search?? I was sooo hoping this might work but I really do prefer the other one. SO, back we go to the tack shop and the post office.

I think I'm going to bring all three coats to the tack shop, try them all on together with some impartial assistance and figure out which one we should go with. Thanks :)

I really don't see you getting an off-the-shelf fit that you're going to be happy with. I think you ought to buy one that fits over her biggest area (stomach) and is perhaps a bit big in the arms/shoulders and have it tailored. A good tailor should have no problem working with the coat to get it to fit. Not everyone is lucky enough to have an off-the-shelf body. I didn't as a kid!

so you think I'm outta luck V? :) I was wondering if this coat was tailorable...but I'm going to compare it with the other one. What a nightmare this is becoming, I'm so over it!

I woudn't feel to bad about it. Not everyone can buy off the rack. Heck, I often have to have the hem let down on my pants and I am NOT tall (5'6). That's life.

I think all of the coats you posted look a bit boxy/odd fitting but any of them that are a little on the big side are workable with tailoring. Maybe even the one that's pulling a bit, though it strikes me that it's easier to take IN than OUT.

I think you're probably better off with the first coat and taking it to a tailor. Your tack store may know of a good one that deals with hunt coats and knows how they're supposed to fit. It's a pain to have to have stuff altered but most people aren't built to wear stuff directly off the rack so it has to be done.

Thanks guys, Miss Trainer hates this coat too :) oh well. I bought the 3rd option and I'm just gonna go with it. I'm scared to post pics because it's my last option and it will just have to do! Well if we get more ribbons this weekend, perhaps I will just have to post a pic. One thing is for sure, this new coat IS the right length and will not bunch in the chest
