Well, the cute face certainly helps. I went back and forth a lot as to whether I was going to pursue this. If he were a little fancier I would have been all over it immediately but he had to prove himself to me. But he always does the right thing with his knees and shoulders even when he is struggling how to figure out how to jump from a particular distance or navigate a new trick and he has tons of scope. And gosh golly, he is so darn sweet and well mannered. He is one that is just fun to be around. He could be bigger, but oh well. He reminds me of a couple of my favorite pintos on earth - all three are not the fanciest things on earth but they are darn near close to being the most perfect things on earth! I think he is going to be a great little horse for someone and talented enough to do whatever. |

How big is he? I ride a 15 hander, and call him "Big Guy" since the next largest one in my barn is 13.2, so it's all a matter of perspective.

LOL, that's hysterical - I guess when you are in the land of ponies its easy to be a giant! (Much like me - I'm always the tallest in a room full of 2nd graders!). He is not that little - I'd say between 15.2-15.3. And at least he's quite scopey and has a giant step. I feel like I'm on a midget though because Woody is FAT, LONG, and close to 17 hands This one is skinny (not for long around our barn though) and short. Good length of body though. He just feels so much smaller than anything we have in the barn, in part because he needs to fill out and gain weight.

OK, so a friend of mine who is a show steward (amongst many other things in the show world!) was practicing her measuring (I guess there is a measuring clinic as they are working on standardizing measurement procedures or something? Anyway there is a big meeting in Lexington this weekend she is headed to so she wanted to be really sharp at measuring) and we put a stick on him - he is bigger than he appears! His high withers put him at 16.0 3/4". Go figure! He was standing a little tall and is high in the heel, but he's right around 16 hands. I'm usually not that off! I am exactly 16h myself so I am good at "is it a small or a large". He has been going out at night with Woody, much to Woody's dismay probably. Oreo is the exuberant, playful youngster and Woody is friendly and loves others but I think he finds the 'kid' annoying! But he is tolerating him well. Here are some pictures of them last night in their paddock. I have video from my lesson on him today that hopefully I'll get uploaded to my computer at some point tonight... And because he is so darn handsome and perfect... |

OK, here is some video of Oreo today. He is of course VERY green and naive but this is pretty much him - always just very willing and smart. This is his first time jumping all the boxes and big gates and such, and first time cantering around a course (when he trots the green box he actually canters the next two lines but the video is in a couple pieces). He has good instincts with his jumping style, and jumps some good jumps. its so easy for him and he has a huge step. He needs to be fitter and I think I'm going to splurge and put some hind shoes on him (and aluminums up front - his steels he has now are heavier than the shoes woody has on his hind end!). His trot is very average and while his canter could be dressier, it is big, lopey, and athletic. His willingness, personality, and logical way of thinking are certainly his best traits. But he does enough right at times to think with flatwork, course work, and gymnastics he will be a cool dude. Now if only he will fill out and gain weight so I can actually get my leg on him... he is so narrow (narrow is certainly relative however).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUe5_hhCXZo |

NO BUCKING NO BUCKING Kiki, he is really really cute. I am totally in love with his attitude. I think the canter and trot will improve with time but his basic movement is not bad at all. Up here in Canada, he would make a really nice provincial level adult hunter, maybe even do some of the lower level A shows. I love how totally adjustable he is for a baby -- did the outside line in 6 with no fuss, no muss, and then at the ned when he was a bit UP, he nailed it in 5, but didn't look rushy or hollow through his back.I have no doubt that he will sell quickquickquick. And that whole bucking thing? He was so darn PROUD of his cuteself that is why he got a little yee haw in! |

I really like him! He's really hunting the jumps, which is awesome and his canter is great. Very cool horse. I'm glad you bought him. |

Witchy, he STILL isn't mine The No Bucking thing was hysterical! He has never even acted like he MIGHT buck until then! he is too quiet on the flat almost but he still finds jumping exciting. He doesn't yet know how to canter down the lines and rock back on his hind end and fire over the jumps but he does do it with ground rails - we had never jumped him down a line so our only goal right now is for him to get the point and shoot thing down, which he is getting. Then we can work on teaching how to really jump. Getting stronger is the biggest thing for him. He is super brave and quality enough that he will eventually be able to go do any job. I laughed out loud when I heard David saying that - he has always seemed like a really fun person to ride with. Oreo is awesome, great brain and he looks like he really enjoyed jumping. Once he learns how to rock back and round over a jump he will be quite something, love him! |
