From what I've gathered from friends' posts on Facebook, Brownland is a big giant lake. The pictures I've seen are crazy, there were practically rushing rapids. All the horses were evacuated to the Agriculture Center Sunday but there was a lot of loss of personal equipment (probably trunks, set-up stuff, etc). But it sounds like the show did the best they possibly could to get everyone out & everyone is safe. |

I went on OTB's blog to check how she was. Some flooding but nothing major at her farm. How awful are those pictures of the flood. |

Brownland is CRAZY bad. We were supposed to be there but ended up not going, thankfully. I do have a number of friends who lost quite a bit. Here are some pictures. The first one is the large schooling ring and the second is looking up the driveway towards the entrance. |

We had no issues at all at our farm. Brownland was a disaster. Tack trunks floating down the Harpeth River, horses up to their chests in water - it was bad. The way they evacuated the horses was they ran a bulldozer with the blade down down the driveway, and the trailers followed closesly behind in the "wake" left by the dozer. They could get 1-2 trailers in or out at a time using this method. That being said the aftermath at Brownland is not nearly what they thought it would be. The footing in the arenas did not get washed away and the damage to the barns/stabling was minimal. They anticipate being able to host their USEF rated show as scheduled at the end of May which is incredible. |

OTB I am glad you and ponies are ok! My dad said it is really weird, some places are totally dry and others are completely under water. I saw pics of Opryland today and was shocked at the amount of water! |

Happy and thankful to report that the barn where I keep my mare did beautifully in the floods despite the fact we are really close on the Harpeth River (and very close to Brownland). My mare's field and one other are the low spots on the property and it pools in bad storms anyway so I was a bit worried how it would fare in this storm. The neighborhood right behind my mare's field (as in we can see in their livingrooms close) was flooded so very badly and I saw the houses for myself today. It was shocking to see everyone's stuff strewn all about, trucks from various companies/services parked every which way, dumpsters galore. The neighborhood is called River Landing for a reason....and man did that river rise. The 3 houses directly behind my mare's field were evacuated and flooded. I lost count after 20 houses that had been badly flood affected. The next neighborhood over, Cottonwood, was just as bad if not worse. Somehow the flood waters did not cross into our fields. Topography must be "just so" so that the water stopped in their backyards. IF we HAD flooded down there, there were safe high areas to put our girls, thankfully. Sad to see all the devastation and people who lost so much so fast. Never thought I would see anything like this in person. Edited by jonquilTN, May 5 2010, 06:33 PM.
