I just got Nelson's Jockey Club papers over the weekend, and learned that his sire is Run Softly, who was a graded stakes winner by Deputy Minister and out of a Riverman mare. He is a racing stallion, but I'd like to research how his offspring have done in hunter/jumper land. And given how dead quiet Nelson is, I'm guessing that there probably are a lot of them out there! :innocent: Other than Google, which didn't yield much in the way of results, can someone point me to a website or anything else I can search?

I would kill to get a Riverman mare! I'll look at your boy's pedigree in a little bit but a BIG drool worthy name is Riverman right off the bat.

Thanks Hollandaise! Here's a link to his pedigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/niellsen

Dad is Run Softly (by Deputy Minister, out of River Lullaby by Riverman) and Mom is Sic Em Sis (by Saint Ballado, out of Whirling Creek by Island Whirl). I don't know much about TB breeding, but see/know these names: Northern Dancer is on both the top and bottom of the sire's side and Halo (by Hail to Reason) is on the top of his dam's side. But I have no idea about them from a sport horse standpoint, as opposed to racing.

Edited to add that I did a little pedigree surfing over lunch, and on paper at least, Nelson should have been FAST!! But that's the crap shoot of breeding, I guess, b/c he's as slow and lazy as a hot summer day.:P

Go to USEF.org and do a horse recording search by sire. You can then run a horse results search on any matches to see what they are showing in and how successful they are.

Delia I THOUGHT that was him, but I wasn't sure. Based on his pedigree he should have some chrome as it's coming really strongly from his dam sire. Never Bend made some great hunter sons and Prince Rose was even better. So Riverman was awesome and did have a flair for the jumper kids. Herbager was a good french stallion with jumper kids, though not a lot are popping to mind. I have to day I do not know much of his dam's dam line but I like the sire's top and bottom and the dam sire for a performance horse.

What Chanda suggested is a great tool now that they have done sire searches.

Thanks guys. I'll run a USEF search. I also emailed his breeder, who owns both his dam and sire. Hollandaise -- as far as chrome, he doesn't have much. A narrow blaze and nothing on his legs, but he does have roan-ish white hairs throughout his body. His mane and tail, however, have practically every color imagineable(!)

I'm bored so I looked up Run Softly on the USEF's horse results search and their are 5 other Run Softly offspring registered besides Nelson (I got really excited for a second and thought "Nelson has a full sibling!" and then I realized that he must be Knob Creek...).
Looks like one did some eventing in 2007 and one is doing the Children's Hunters, but the rest don't have any rated results.

Thanks Indy -- I did the same thing yesterday and got the same results. Yes, Nelson's show name is Knob Creek. Named after the bourbon, b/c he's the same color . . . and I really like bourbon. ;)
