so is it a goner? I took the battery out and all the water damage indicators read red, which I realize is bad news. I have it sitting in a tupperware filled with rice for now. SO, if I have to get a new one, I am only 6 months into my contract with Verizon, how much would this cost me? The full retail value of $399? or can I get one somewhere else cheaper, like COSTCO? HELP! I need this for work and without it I'm screwed. (and no it's not paid by my boss).

If it doesn't dry out (nd you need to give it a couple of days at least to be sure, and make sure you rotate it's position to dry it uniformly). A friend buys his cells and blackberries off of Ebay-they are a good price, and he just pays to activate it. To dry it I would put it on a rack or wire shelf to let it get the most air possible if the rice doesn't seem to work.

Ditto this.

And no, you're not alone, mine went swimming in the toilet as well (I keep my phones in my back pocket.. you can figure out the rest LOL). My mom also dropped hers in the bath tub the other day. :teehee:

You did good by taking the battery out quick and putting it in rice, all good things. I put mine by a window that got a lot of sun light and that helped it dry. I gave it 3 full days before I even tried turning it on. Mine ended up being totally fine, and also survived being dropped in a sink full of water a few months later. Blackberries are durable little things!

As for your contract with Verizon, I'm not sure how it'll work. I know most phone companies will not cover a phone if there's water damage (and those indicators are crap, I've bought brand new batteries before that were 'water damaged' out of the package!).

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt. I also keep my phone in my back pocket. :shoot:

Mine was a gonner, but luckily AT&T was having a blackberry sale so I paid like $99 for a new one. Check Verizon's online store. A lot of times you can get refurbished ones for a lot cheaper than a new one.

You may want to try walmart if it does work after drying it. I got mine there for $8.88 last year so do go their also.

Thanks Ladies....I did try to turn it on right away which I understand was a bad move, so I'm not holding out hope and honestly I don't know that i can wait 3-5 days for it to dry (yes it was in my pocket ;)).

The guy at my local Verizon retailer has a refurbished Storm he will sell me cheap....anyone know anything about them? i'm gonna miss my little pink Curve :)

Don't get the Storm, period. The Storm 2 is better, but you will hate the original storm.

Search online and you can find them cheaper and have them activated. I know many people think handset insurance is a rip off but I make GOOD use of it... Sometimes my phones work when they dry out, sometimes not.

oh that's not a ringing endorsement Kikki :(

ok so I see a bunch of the pink Curve's on ebay but I need to understand how this works with my contract with Verizon. I am only 6 months into a 2 yr contract. Do i just buy a phone off ebay and then bring it to Verizon and they activate it for me? so confused

Yeah I've heard nothing but bad things about the first Storm.. lots of issues there. I have a Curve as well and love it.

Not sure how it would work with Verizon.. I'm lucky because I have T-Mobile, so I can just buy and unlocked phone, stick my SIM card in it and go. No activation required. One of the reasons I left Verizon. This was why I could give my phone 3 full days to dry; I had my old back up phone and just put my SIM card in there and used it while BB was drying out

I know somebody who dropped theirs in a porta potty at a horse show and made a jump crew guy fish it out. Why the guy actually agreed to fish it out is beyond me :spew: :spew:

All you do is get the phone and the Verizon people will charge you an activation fee. My friend that buys phones off of Ebay doesn't have a contract any longer, and just buys then activates. He said he also gets great service from Sprint because they want him to get a contract-the exact opposite of my experience with them since I did have a contract and they knew they had me. You might be able to get a refurbished blackberry from Verizon if you call them instead of look at their site-or they might have them at the store too. It can't hurt to go to the store and ask. I just switched to Verizon (much better service here) for cell and Wifi (actually Mifi)-and the salesman not only explained everything, but gave me his card with his cell number if I have problems and he's off duty--they are on commission and really go all out for regular customers.

You need to go to the big Verizon store, not one of their agents (the smaller stand alones that can't do much more than sales).

If you buy a phone that is "unlocked" you can just put the chip out of your phone into it and you are good to go. Very simple. You can also buy a go phone and put your chip in that.

A lot of Verizon phones don't have SIM cards, so you couldn't do that. I know that some do now, but none of my family has them in theirs (they all have Verizon & all have BB's).

I dropped mine in a Porta Potty at a polo game once, but I didn't give a passing thought about fishing it out and using it again! Eww... :spew:
