I have a dog that catches anything that flies in the air. Does that count? :teehee:

We dont use them, but I have read tons of good reviews from people who do. I think that biggest thing is that you get the accurate amount.

We used them for several years and thought they were working. But last summer our fly population was ridiculously high. Barn swallows came to live at the barn for the first time ever and then abruptly left. So I don't know if maybe they ate our fly predators. (And then got eaten themselves by our barn cat?) We've decided not to get them this year.

Sorry never used but chickens work great to keep the bug numbers down. Mine have th run of the farm and my fly and other bug numbers droped big time.

I haven't noticed our chickens helping very much with the fly population, but have seen a huge drop in the number of ticks! I hope they develop a taste for flies this year... ack... if they are anything like they were last year we're going to have to call an exorcist!

Got the FP's, and wasn't impressed. I haul my manure away (have a dump trailer, make a dump run every 2 weeks) so the life cycle of the flies and the predators and the haul off didn't really jive. I'm thinking they didn't have much of a chance, really. :(

I have neighbors close by who do no manure management, and I'm convinced that was an issue too.

The flies were brutal last year, and my barn is spotless (I even 'sift' my stalls, to get rid of any wayward sh!t bits). I resorted to wide fly tape and fly hut thingys (the clear plastic domes with the liquid bait). I put the fly domes in the sunniest (warmest) spots in the aisle during the day (horses in) and in the stall on the clean bedding at night (horses out). Both the tape and the domes were loaded with flies, so I know I put a dent in the population....

I am this. close. to investing in the overhead mist system, as it seems to be the only way I've seen that really works. Of course it's pricey, and I don't like the looks of the tubes and nozzles....

I think the FP are worth a try tho, som folks swear by 'em. They aren't that expensive, and the company that sends them is very good...

This is our fourth year using them. We saw a bit of a decline in fly population in year 2, and a pretty significant reduction last year, when everyone else was saying the flies were horrible. I'm curious to see if there's an even bigger reduction this year. We too have very close neighbors (as in practically share a fence line) that really don't do any manure management.

We get our bugs from Arbico - when I first shopped around, they had the best price and this year they gave me two free double treatments for tough fly months. They also have good customer service. One particularly hot summer, it appeared as though most of the bugs in one shipment were DOA. They quickly sent out a replacement treatment, no questions asked.

WE have close neighbors with GOATS and zero goat poo management. Icky yicky nasty. I am afraid they are a big fly breeder too.

I wonder how many goats are too many for a turn out area? Hmmmm

YES they are great! I used them at the little place where I kept Truman alone 2 years ago. Granted it was one horse but man I never saw a fly. Got a shipment every month, And was very happy. I hear that if you have a farm that is near a dairy farm or other horse farm that does not use them it is not going to do much. Makes sense. I never used fly spray that summer! :) :cloud9:
