OK, so I have a bit of a dilemma, when we remodeled we took some of the original master bedroom to make a closet for the new master bedroom.....in turn the old master is now the guest. I knew when we did this we'd have some issues with curtains, blinds in the guest room.....because the trim of the window is almost against the wall. I had just thought I'd put some wood blinds up and then a valance over the top on a curtain rod, that shoves directly into the wall and has no decorative end on it.......but I suddenly had the thought of putting plantation shutters on today, but the only houses I've seen have been condo's with plantation shutters, and the whole house had them, so I'm wondering if that would look funny to only have them in one room???? Help for the decorator challenged!!! Exhibit A (guest room before) ![]() Exhibit B (after)

Hey now..HH...my bedroom is blue. And I love it. Course it doesn't have blue carpet. Neighland...eek..that's some ![]() You have a ton of options for window coverings, pretty much anything. If it were me and if the bedroom is on a second floor, I wouldn't do shutters. They would block any "view" that might be available. I do love the look of them, though. Since the room look smallish, I would probably do a Roman shade with or without a box valance: http://www.calicocorners.com/images/en_US/local/page_specific/gateway/Gateway_Shades_img.jpg http://www.bamboo-earth-emporium.com/images/bam_roman_shade1.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p137/KariJoyVen/217220RomanShades_0.jpg There's a really easy version of this that can be made for very little (and looks a little cleaner) I have the directions in my idea book at home...it's basically just a fabric panel and two ties. The nice thing about it is that you leave it tied the majority of the time, giving some interest to the window and then when guests come over, they just untie for privacy.: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/emlovesdrew/DSC_6465-2.jpg |

I think plantation shutters would look good actually in the room. I have drapes and shutters in my house and they work fine together. Shutters in every room can be boring, I agree. |

Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate it!! The room isn't huge, we lobbed off about 9 feet of width for the master closet, so its about 12 x 13 or so...... I'd love to do the shutters, however I think we could come up with a lot better use of the xtra $$$ right now and from what I saw at Lowes it will be about $500 for that window, plus I'd like to do the attached bath w/the same, and I didn't even look at pricing for that window, but it is smaller.....I'm going to check Home Depot and look around online to see if I can get the price down then I'd go for them, but probably go cheap for the time being and do them in a year or so. But I did see some Roman Shades that I really liked!!! What colors would you put with that room, as I said I'm terrible at this!!! They had a plain light cream color that would, but maybe be a bit plain, they also had a chocolate brown that I think could look nice, but DH made a face, so am second guessing myself. Yes HH this house was awesome back in 1971 when it was built....it even had a built in mixer attachment in the counter top....... If you want to see before and after pics here is the link to the webpage Snackie www.neighland.com/new I actually need to update them, we weren't all the way moved in when I took the ones on there, and I have no bedrooms on the site. here is a before and after of another bedroom ![]() ![]() I'll get some more this week or next!! Mae is getting read to foal so things maybe crazy for the next couple of days!! |

A Roman shade or Baloon valance would be great since the shutters are too expensive. You can put them up or down to block the light and they look very pretty. I'd use something that goes on the inside of the window, so you don't have to worry about the trim. Wow, that was some fancy disco pad. I love that the pink wallpaper was sparkly. How fancy.

Witchy, you would have loved the sparkly turkey wallpaper that was in the kitchen!! HAHAHAHA!! It was behind the paneling so we didn't get to see it till demolition started!! |
