Does anyone know of a hypoallergenic sanitary napkin that works REALLY well? I've been using Always Ultra Thin for a VERY long time, but recently have had some problems with contact dermatitis (NOT fun). In my research I found this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8612252 - very interesting. (In short, it is a study that reports a majority of women suffer from contact dermatitis while using Always brand napkins.) The problem is - I was loyal to the brand because they work so well and don't feel like you're wearing a diaper. Now that I've developed this allergy, I obviously can't use them anymore. I was tempted to try the new Always Infinity as they supposedly have a more comfortable lining, but I think if I do try them at all I'm going to wait a few pain-free months first. Additionally, I suffer from Menorrhagia, so don't use tampons. Can those with experience or medical knowledge chime in? And I must apologize again for the TMI thread, however I really need some help here. |

Hey, girl, we've all been there with those kinds of questions...if you can't ask US then who? Anyhoo, have you ever tried Carefree Original pads "Unscented"...they have baking soda and NO FRAGRANCE or other harsh chemicals. You can get them anywhere (Walgreen's, Osco, Kroger, Fry's...etc, etc). They have quite a "line" of designs/types and they all come in the Unscented variety. I long ago had to abandon Always...like you, I liked them but had serious reactions to whatever changes they made and/or whatever materials they used. A nurse pal turned me on to the Carefree line and it has certainly worked for me. Another is Kotex Lightdays pads, and one friend has had sucess with StayFree pads. Hope this helps. |

I definitely think the Always Infinity are much more comfy than the regular ones - the lining is more cloth-like. I have no idea if they're made of the same stuff, though. ![]() If you don't mind me asking, why can't/don't you use tampons with menorrhagia? (Just curious..) |

Thanks guys! I knew you'd understand. I'm thinking my long-term solution may be a Cup due to the added financial and environmental benefits, but I'm still on the fence as the idea is pretty foreign to me. Short-term, I'm going to go to the local natural foods store to see if they have any of the suggestions listed. If not I'll run to Walgreen's and get some Carefree. Sheep, I don't mind you asking, but I think others might mind my answer! It's because my flow is extremely clotty on my 2 worst days, tampons can't absorb it.

Add me to the non-tampon type (but that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy back when as I had a hysterectomy at 21)...but I NEVER could use tampons. Of course, this was the Stone Age and tampons have evolved and now you all have the Cup. Good luck RidemCo! Hope you get something that works!

I spent almost a year being freaked out by the concept of the Diva Cup. Which I'd found out about from my hippie writer friends in Ann Arbor, but I brushed off the idea. I've since spent four years being SO GLAD that I got over the conceptual barrier. It has changed my riding life, and indeed my entire life, for the better. No leaks! Hallelujah! I tried to tell my big sister how great it was. After the third time, I told her I wasn't going to mention it again but to call me when she got around to trying it. She got around to it two years later and called me, asking me why I hadn't kept badgering her because it was amaaaaaaazing. It's the best thing, next to getting rid of Aunt Flo altogether. No more leaks! No more weird dermatitis! No more embarrassing public bathroom moments where you wonder if everyone can hear you crinkling that plastic wrapper! And Ride'em, this is probably TMI but I'm in the clot club too. I flow really heavy for the first two days, like REALLY heavy, like back in my tampon days I had to replace every 3-4 hours. My sis and I call those clots "the blood slugs." Amazing how those suckers can sneak right past a tampon. I'm thrilled to say that they do not and cannot sneak past the Diva Cup. I only check the Diva Cup once or twice a day, and that is more than enough. Edited by jn4jenny, Mar 28 2010, 03:48 PM.

Blood slugs? Oh my...that made me laugh. Should it have made me laugh? ![]() Count me in on the blood slug club and the heavy period. First two days I can be in the bathroom every 1/2 hour..using the big girl tampons. Not every month is like that...but sometimes it's "watchout!" I'm still intrigued by the Diva Cip, but I can't get them around here. |

Don't worry, I laughed too. This topic make me so happy I'm on birth control full time (as in, I never have an 'off' week, so I don't have the need for anything) because it helps keep my blood pressure stable! Edited by kady05, Mar 28 2010, 04:15 PM.

Hahaha, blood slugs! I love it! I've been thinking about getting a diva cup for a while, but I kept putting it off. Apparently the Whole Foods across the street from me sells them..I may have to go pick one up. Snacky, I can get one and mail it to you if you'd like. |

I got mine at Whole Foods. My sister got hers on the Internet at drugstore.com (or was iherb.com? Can't quite remember) when it was on sale for $14 shipped. Looks like iherb.com is selling it for $24.70 and there's a coupon code for first-time iherb.com customers for $5 off, BEV426. MAR, I was on depo for five years and loved it. My doctor suggested that I switch to something else at the five-year mark because of the studies on long-term depo's effect on bone density. But the Diva Cup and NuvaRing has made the switch tolerable.

thankfully i just had a bone density test that was normal..after 10 years of depo. Honestly, they would have to do a total hysterctomy in order for me to go off the depo...it has been a a lifesaver |
