I broke down and bought a car on Tuesday. The final straw with the Blazer - it was raining and the wiper motor died. I. Was. Done.

Got an amazing deal on a 2009 Ford Taurus LTD. Love it. It's the nicest car (maybe not the coolest, but the nicest) I've ever owned.

I always name my cars. The Blazer was Bob.

This car is classy and elegant, so I was thinking Carey, for Carey Grant, but I don't think too many people would get it.

Any suggestions along those lines?

I always like Maurice Chevalier, thought he was both elegant and classy, from the musicals I watched as a child. And a Chevelier is a horse rider! Maurice would not be common among car owners!!

I name the big trucks I drive, not the little daily trucks even though we do keep them a long time. We ask a lot of the big ones, do many adventures, so they need names for some reason.

The first semi truck was grey and black, always was an ADVENTURE when we took it with the horses to anyplace. Seemed like the only name that fit was "Hi-Ho Silver" which husband liked to say as we would depart. The tractor got replaced with a newer one, a golden color, so it was obvious that truck would be "Trigger". We like Trigger a lot better, much more reliable, MORE power whatever is behind it.

The old Ford, crewcab dually, long box, just was always Jake. A wonderful truck, faithful in the extreme, only left us hanging a couple times over the MANY years of use. Has over 300,000 miles of fun, work, activities, with only about 15,000 put on by the original owner the first six months before we bought him. Still starts on the first crank, so reliable. We need to sell it, but no one wants to buy it. Mechanic says the motor is still the best one he works on, but the body is rusting out finally.

Third one is our "new" truck to replace Jake. It is a model 2000 Nissan, made in 2005, truck. An extended cab over the motor, with the flat face. Also used, but VERY low miles, in excellent shape. Motor seems bottomless, moves whatever you hitch it to with little effort. Gets great mileage, even with big loads. He has the overcab yellow clearance lights, so with the big windshield he got named "Toady". The previous owner had Toad Hollow for a farm name, which I think helped influence us! The JD Gator is named Froggy, since it really does look like one, and Toady fit in, I like amphibians!

My mom has a Taurus wagon, lovely car. Gets terrific mileage, nice to drive. Congrats on your new vehicle.

He could be Clark, like Clark Gable.

My first car was a Honda Accord named Sydney, on account of her color being called "eucalyptus green".

My current car is a Hyundai Elantra named Silvia (since she's silver). Silvia is our rugged car since she's my car and therefore the barn car, she gets muddy and goes off-roading on occasion. She's got a few scars, but she's still a great car and very steady.

Mr. I's Saturn is named Emily. Emily lives with Karen, our GPS. Emily's much prissier and doesn't do the dirty work (Mr. I was appalled the day I took Emily to the barn and got her outside dirty). She's our distance runner, she's the car we drive back to the midwest most of the time. Most the time she just chills in the parking lot since she doesn't go to work with either of us.

Congrats on the new car!

My truck (the big red F250) is Clifford.
Our farm truck with a dump bed, GMC dually with a 454 big block engine, is The Beast. Everybody loves that truck and we get comments on it wherever we go!
Mr. Fishy's Audi is Otto Schmotto, but Otto for short.
My Mercedes is The Princess.
We also have dumpy the little dump trailer.

How about Marlene, as in Dietrich?

My cars are always named. I've had:

Grizzabella (actually my Mom's, but I named her)

The Silver Bullet (my Dad's '85 Toyota mini van, looked like a can of Coors Light driving down the road)

Rosie (first Blazer)

Ruby (second Blazer)

and now the Volvo, Weibke (pronounced VEEB-kuh)

You know, I've always named cars, but now that you mention it, I haven't named the Beamer!

The Red Jeep was ET, the electric Tomato

The Black Mazda was Nigel (because the black made him look like a butler)

The Jimmy was Jimmy the Jimmy

the 2nd Jeep Cherokee, I can't remember

the red truck was "Butch" because my very gay friend said I looked like a butch driving it

The Saab was "The Snaablet"--it punished me for that name.

The Honda Element was "The Lunch Box"

The Mini Cooper was Manuel

The new truck is the Truck-a-saurus

Any suggestions for my black BMW X3?

MGP--I think you should name him Grant as in "Grant, Carey Grant" like "Bond, James Bond"

My all time favorite car name--a friend in high school got her parents horrid-oh-my-god-mom-don't-make-me-drive-this-but-I'm-going-to-revel-in-its-parentcarness-and-make-the-best-of-it "COMD" and had that on the license plate. Her parents had no idea what it stood for and just gave her the "that's nice dear" when she got the vanity plates--it stood for "Car Of My Dreams"

Rachel, I LOF your car's name and YES keep the Carey Grant! (My TB is often called Carey Grant In A Tux because of his penchant for keeping himself spiffy and clean and his calm, good manners!)...better than calling your car Spike! (Though I had a car named Spike once...that car and I did not like each other...it reminded me of some tattoo parlor ex-con!)

The car we inherited from my Dad when he passed away is called The Silk Pillow (because it's plush and posh!), the very OLD GM Truck my husband has and loves to death is just called John (I have NO clue why), my little blue Olds sedan (now elderly) is called Rollerskate.

My husband's Dad just handed down a very old (but in MINT condition) Dodge Intrepid to us...we have no name yet. It's quite sporty looking and (to me!) seems to be going about 90 mph just parked in the driveway...any name suggestions? I thought about calling it Zoomer?

I do, but pretty much just my towing truck, it's Big White. The one before it was Old White. Mr. Corey's truck that he plows snow with is Heavy D.

Congrats on the new wheels MGP!! Nothing quite like a new car, really.
