I have a 14 year old DD and a 3 year old DS. When my DD was little I temporarily got into scrapbooking and did her "baby book" with all her pictures, stats, etc., actually it went up until she was about 3 years old. It looks really nice.

That being said, I am not a real creative person. I only enjoy scrapbooking when I have the time and energy to really devote to it, and right now I don't. With working full time I don't want to spend my weekends getting out all my stuff and scrapbooking. But I feel I want to something special for my DS's "baby book," so those pictures will be preserved.

Unlike my DD's baby pictures, all my DS's pictures are digital. I was thinking about putting together one of those custom photo books that I've seen on Shutterfly and other places like that, so that I can sit at the computer when I have time to work on it, and not have to physically cut, paste, write, etc. like scrapbooking. I know it's more expensive but I think it might be the answer for me in this case.

Has anyone done these before and can say whether it turned out good or not so good? Is there a website you used that made it easier? It looks like Shutterfly, for instance, has set backgrounds and layouts you can choose from. I also want to be able to add writing on each page for descriptions of the pictures, etc.

Thanks for the input. :)

I haven't made one, but I saw one that a friend made through shutterfly and it's GORGEOUS!

I've heard good things about Shutterfly.

Someone gave us a gift certificate to there as a wedding gift, but I haven't gotten around to using it yet.

I have used My Publisher and was pleased with the result. I think for a new customer you get a two-for-one deal.

Someone from my work did one for her daughter's trip and it came out really nicely. It was bound with glossy pages, similar quality to a nice highschool year book. I was impressed with it, it was about $100 if I remember correctly. I'll double check to see who she used.

I did one of my wedding photos at My Publisher and was really happy. They always seem to have sales going on as well.

I've used them and LOVED them. One for a song I wrote for my daughter (I made a "book" for her including photos of herself), my parents last wedding anniversary book is beautiful (made by a friend for them) and a few others. I highly recommend it as a great way to make a lovely memory. Shop around for deals; as CDE said My Publisher often has deals; sign up for a web-site, start working on the project (they can take a while to complete) and wait for a deal to come along!

I've seen a number of them and shutterfly has been my favorite. I am working on a book from them with pictures and such of my late lab, Leo. They do an excellent job. I have ordered calendars from them and they were excellent.

Thanks everyone! It helps to know some of you have used these and been happy. It seems between here and FB Snapfish and Shutterfly seem to be the popular sites. I like the idea of putting it together and waiting for a sale. It's going to take me a while to get it together anyway. ;)

I think I will like this better than "real" scrapbooking, though I'm not always eager to spend more time on the computer after looking at it all day at work.

This is a very timely thread for me because I am photographing my sister's "wedding reception" (very low key family BBQ) in May and want to give them one of these for a gift!

Ok just talked to Billy (my bf)'s sister, who is a photographer. She uses mypublisher.com and I've seen a couple she had done with them and they are gorgeous. I think that's who I'll use!

I've used Snapfish twice to make one of those books - one was a book of dog pictures and doggie quotes and the other was our engagement photos. We used the photo book as our guest book for the wedding. Both books turned out great! They were really easy to make, not real expensive, and came to me very quickly. I used the linen type covers on my books, which turned out nice. Can't speak for the quality of the other types of book coverings they offer.
