LD- If I recall you're in Ottawa? Has he tried with the City? If he goes to Ottawa.ca jobs open to the public are posted there. Once you are an employee you have access to every department and jobs that aren't open to the public. There's a whole range of jobs from city building and property maintenance, entry level admin to senior positions in every city department. It's worth a shot just to keep looking at the site as something suitable may pop up.

Thanks Crackerjack. He has a job interview this afternoon with a telemarketing firm that does phone surveying and one tomorrow with Freeman for general trade show labour. I believe that every job in the city is bilingual and he does not speak french. And we are still fighting a battle to get his ID in order.

I think every newly created job is bilingual..... but those that already exsist unless designated bilingual they remain english only. I think it depends on department..... worth keeping an eye out just in case. In my area there definitley jobs that are posted that aren't designated bilingual..... those are usually in the west end of the city. (the whole bilingual thing is a PITA!!!)

Anyway here's a few :jingles: :jingles: :jingles: :jingles:

Drew had his second job interview yesterday and he said it went okay, but the guy said they would call him on Thursday if they had an opening for him. Frankly that does not sound altogether promising to me, but I am keeping positive. He is working today (I think) at Freeman, which is one of the world's largest trade show companies. They set up trade shows, move freight in and out of convention centres and so on and so forth. I work with Freeman in several locations around the world, and I would not be displeased if he managed to work with them. He will be unloading trucks and moving freight (I think). The guy told Drew to show up with steel toed boots on and a void cheque, but if he didn't have the cheque it was not a big deal. Luckily, Mr. Diva has several pairs of steel toed boots so that is fine. It is a casual labour thing and he cannot guarantee Drew's hours, but right now, the convention business is busy here, so that is good.

Please keep Drew in your jingles! I know that he will get something permanent soon!! You guys are da bestest ever!!

(PS: I understand about the bilingual jobs issue...down here it's spanish/english issues...frustrating when you DO speak French but live in Spanish-oriented lands. However, if Drew is persistent he WILL find something! I think the bilingual thing is done often because it's politically correct, but there ARE jobs/bosses willing to forego that if they find a hard, willing worker like Drew...so, continued good vibes comin' your way! :cheer: :woot: :rose: )
