I know the recommended loading dose for adequan (7 in 28 days), but have heard many different 'real life' protocols. What are you're thoughts? What's your protocol?

If the horse already has issues, I do the load dose. If I am doing preventative, I just start monthly dose.

I did the loading dose, then do once a month. I've heard of people doing the loading dose a few times a year, but not giving a monthly shot.

I also have my horse checked over just before show season starts and he gets any necessary injections as the vet deems appropriate.

Ive been told both ways are fine.

I did a loading dose with my older mare. She only got it occasionally.

Did not do it with current mare. She just gets regular monthly injection but is also on cosequin asu.

My horse was on/off lame through most of last Fall and this past Winter. He's finally come around but I've decided to start him on Adequan to help maintain where he's at and prolong his joint injections. My vet said 4 doses over 16 days (so 1 dose every 4 days) and then once a month.

4 doses used to be the protocol, but then they moved it up to 7, I don't know if that really works better, or if they just make more money that way. Hard to tell. I think the 4 dose works just fine.
