The DF is going to be repposted next year and one of the places that is on the list is Comox BC. NOw I know enough to know that there is no way we can afford a farm/acreage there, so it will be boarding for me. I need to find some boarding places in the area.

So here is the list of wants.

- Tons of turn out woould love 24/7 but know that is a long shot. no less then 6 hrs of turn out.
-Lots of hay 2-3 times a day. I don't want to board some where they only get 2 small flacks twice a day.
- Some place to ride. I am good with no indoor, but I need to have a place for jumping. trails would be great as well.
-Jumps or are ok with me bring my own.
-somewhere they have lessonsor I can bring someone in, but is not over run by lessons 6 days a week and I am not required to take a lesson every week.
- OK the big one, No more then $500.00 a month per horse. I am not going to make life for my man any harder then it has to be.

I am easy most ways, I can work with most anything. So let me know what is in that area. I have done a few searchs but having a hard time finding where the barns are in relation to Comox.

Hmmmm. Can't help you too much with the Comox area, but can give you feedback from the perspective of the lower mainland.

1. Boarding here is very, VERY different due to the need to manage mud. I'm a bit cautious about anyplace that offers field turnout in the winter, as it generally means your horse will be up to it's knees in slick mud. There ARE a few out there with incredible drainage, but be sure to ask a lot of questions. Likely you will find a paddock with shelter or stall with a run if you need 24/7 turnout. Look for private farms - I know people who have had a lot of luck with this!

2. I haven't had an issue with quantities of hay personally, but again, check into the quality in detail. Local hay does not have a lot of nutritional value. It's great if you have an easy keeper, or as something to keep them entertained between meals. At last check, a good quality eastern washington grass/alfalfa mix runs about $390/ton around here.

3. If you're riding outside in the winter, look for someplace with a gravel-type footing. A lot of people will claim that their hogfuel is rideable all winter, but it's usually soup by spring.

4. BC has a lot of trails, and hard core trail riders.

You SHOULD be able to find a place for $500/month with the criteria you've outlined, especially since you can compromise a bit on facilities (i.e. no indoor). I would really look for a private place with access to a local riding club - it's often the best value!

Try posting on the Horse Council forums as well for specific recommendations: http://forums.hcbc.ca

Island Horses also has a classified section: www.islandhorses.com

Good luck!
