I don't like the first two AT ALL. The picture is awful of the first but even trying to compensate for that, something looks horrible off with how she's put together behind and those front pasterns look sooo long with her hooves at in front of the line of support.

Second mare is extremely wasp-waisted and I don't think it's going to improve much with weight. She's not nearly skinny enough to be THAT wasp-waisted.

I like the third horse much better than the first two. He's much more balanced all around.

LOVE the fourth one. He's my favorite of the lot.

And my look at the ass on the fifth!

(If I was looking seriously, I wouldn't look at #1 or #2 at all. I would definitely look at #3 and #4 and maybe #5 if it was at the same track.

If I was looking for a sport horse prospect, I would second everything Snacky just posted. #4 would be my pick as well.

But, I LOVE the expression on #1 and understand what would draw you to her! I think expression counts, and IF you were actually looking it could be worth seeing her in person given how terrible the photo is. I suspect she's nicer than she appears, although probably still not a strong performance horse prospect.

Snacky, I don't know anything about conformation. What does wasp-waisted mean and why's it a bad thing?

Ibex: good point that I look at horses through a very specialized lens and therefore would not look at a horse that could be a very nice horse with a different type of job.

Sheepwithagun: Notice how tiny the mare through from her rib cage to her flank? Thats wasp-waisted. It's like she has a corset on giving her a tiny, tiny "waist" She's very 'greyhound' like.

It's a lack of abdominal muscles and could predispose the horse to back injuries. It can reduce strength and elasticity and isn't good for jumping horses. It is often related to incorrect riding or undernourishment, but can also be conformational (as I think it is with this mare).
