The shootings there are horrific :( Some good friends of ours live on base and keep their horses there. He is involved with the processing unit where soldiers are deployed, thankfully he is not hurt. Apparently two in his unit were killed and ten others were wounded (within his unit) but he is alright, although still on lockdown.

How to sad to think shooting people in your unit is "the better option". :lonely:

I live in Austin (just south of Killeen/Fort Hood) and they are asking for blood donations. Evidently, they really really need some right now.

It's such a tragedy...they're all in my thoughts.

My best guy friend was there last year for all of his basic training, etc. for the Army. SO happy he wasn't there still! Really sad though :(

My coworkers daughter and her husband are there (I photographed their wedding in June) and are thankfully OK. He is an Army mechanic.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved... so tragic. :candle:

Im thinking the person is wrong on his military pay.. here is hte pay scale the major is an O4 assume he has been in for 6 yrs that makes it about 5330 and change a month. ( you will have to enlarge this to see it well) and that is as of the beginning of fy 09. new charts have not yet come out as far as i can find. http://www.military-money-matters.com/support-files/2009-basic-pay.pdf

He has not yet recieved the special pays like family seperation, hazard duty pay, etc. But iirc there is a special pay for Drs I have not yet found that. but I doubt it wold be around 50k for a yr.. somoneones math is off a bit i think.

I doubt you would be suprsed how many people enter the military service both enlisted and officer ranks nd think they can just get out of their contract. an this is during peace time... they sign the contract, go play military dude for a bit decide they dont like it then whine that they have to serve out the remainder of their contract... And some screw up as bad they are put out not as bad as this guy but like going UA/ AWOL.. mle pretending to be female and preg to get out of doing something..

Could we open up another thread about the who and why and leave this one for thoughts and prayers please?

I certainly understand the disgust about this situation, but I don't want to read it here.
